We had the good fortune of connecting with Corina Vesce Busquets and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Corina, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, and I’m currently living in Savannah, Georgia, where I’m pursuing my dream of becoming an architect. Being raised in another country has had many advantages but also several disadvantages throughout my life. I had to say goodbye to my family but I had the opportunity to say hello to my future. Even though I am starting my professional career; learning to understand a new culture has helped me view the world from a different perspective. I’ve left my country behind in order to grow and become the individual that will be able to give Venezuela the future it deserves through design and architecture. I am a firm believer that the passion and background with which someone creates and builds in this world has the biggest power over what architecture is.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently in my last year of school, finishing my major in architecture and minor in interior design. After each and every experience I’ve had throughout my four years of college I’ve discovered how powerful opinions and point of views are in the design world. It’s impressive how views are able to dictate the overall essence of a project and this definitely shapes the perspective you have of yourself. Nothing is ever easy when it comes to surpassing your own expectations, more so when someone is critiquing your own work. It has not been easy for me personally, but it’s been a rewarding journey to discover how far I can go in order to overcome my fears and be able to grow professionally. Some lessons I have learned through my college career is that comparing your work and yourself to others will not help you fulfill what your ultimate professional or personal purpose is. You have to truly believe that what sets you apart from others is what makes you so special and unique in your work. I have learned this the hard way but it has shaped me into the strong designer I am today. I’m eager and excited to see how my thinking, creative experiences, and designing will be able to make an impact on others lives such as it does in mine.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Savannah has been my home away from home for the last 4 years and I’m so thankful that I’ve found it. I would love to show all my friends around Savannah specially all the historic buildings and adventures around town. The architecture is old but it has its unique and outstanding emblem of what Savannah is and what it has become throughout the years. As an architecture student in SCAD, I would show them around all the historic buildings around campus and what the daily life of a SCAD student looks like. One of the most interesting activities to do while in Savannah are the ghost tours. It’s amazing to hear and experience the ghost stories evolve from word of mouth. Another must would be, Tybee Island. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation by the beach, where you can find delicious restaurants, romantic getaways and more.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will like to dedicate this shoutout to my family, especially my parents. They gave me the opportunity to study my dream career in a different country and in an amazing school. They have supported me through all my ups and downs, and never left my side. Their support is what encourages me to give my all, not only in my career but in my life. I would like to thank them for everything they have done for me, and especially how hard they have worked for my future.
