We had the good fortune of connecting with Coralis Berggren and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Coralis, what do you attribute your success to?
I think what has been the most important strength of my brand is it’s authenticity. I think risk is where you find growth, maturity, and resilience. I have personally taken a lot of risks in my personal and professional career. I have lived in 4 different countries in 5 different states, I’ve moved to new places without a dime in my savings account, I have experienced many different types of “failures”. Taking significant risks has been the scariest, but also the best thing I’ve ever done. The best advice I have ever received is fail, fail, fail, again – and then learn from it. Starting this business was a huge risk for me. Financially but also from a vulnerable standpoint. I spend hours and days working on nail designs, focusing on what the fun details and colors. When I publish my videos on Tiktok I often include voice-overs where I share so much about my business, my life, my creative process, and such. I think this attention to making detailed art and letting my personality shine through my videos is the most important factor to the success of my brand.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I am most proud and excited about is how far I’ve come compared to where I started, or where my mother and grandmother started for that matter. I come from a very large family, my great grandmother had 19 pregnancies. I come from generations of fierce Puerto Rican women who were raising kids with very little help, at a very young age. I was among the first on both sides of my family to obtain a bachelors degree, and I obtained my masters at the same age my mom had me. I think what sets me apart is the fact that I have not only overcome many different challenges, but more importantly, when I face an obstacle I can’t overcome – I pivot and find another path to my end goal. Some lessons I’ve learnt along the way is that you can literally do anything you set your mind, the path to get there or the end result might look a little different than you would have hoped, but you will get there eventually.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oooh what a fun question. I think some of the highlights in Atlanta for me would naturally include all my personal ‘you-can’t-leave-without-seeing-this’ places like the beltline, stone mountain, braves games, piedmont park, etc. I’m a big foodie as well, I have over 200 google maps pins of places I still want to go to in Atlanta, but some my favorites include Okiboru Tsukeman & Ramen (sooo good!!!), The Salty Donut, Mali for Thai food, and Bishoku for sushi. If my visitor is coming from overseas I always take them out for an obligatory them to eat Waffle House and Chick-fil-A too. Other than that I’ll take them hiking or just spend a lazy day in the sun by the pool with them. For nighttime in Atlanta, I’d take them to the Clermont Rooftop and Northside Tavern.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a little extra recognition to my chosen family who have all supported me by listening to me rant about my fears, helped me brainstorm content ideas, build my business plan, and so much more! Thank you Stephanie, Irish, and Patrick. I wouldn’t be here without y’all!
