We had the good fortune of connecting with Constance Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Constance, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is often essential for growth and stepping into new opportunities. For me, risk-taking has always been about trusting my vision and being willing to face uncertainty for the sake of pursuing something I believe in deeply.

When I started Issasistahood, it was a significant leap of faith. I didn’t know if people would support the vision of celebrating women’s friendships and fostering sisterhood, especially since I began with zero dollars and limited resources. It was a financial risk, but also an emotional oneputting myself out there and being vulnerable about something so close to my heart.

Looking back, taking that risk has been one of the most rewarding decisions of my life. Issasistahood has grown into a platform that inspires others, promotes positivity, and celebrates genuine relationships. The process taught me that success often comes from believing in your idea enough to overcome doubts, make bold moves, and take action, even when the odds aren’t guaranteed. Every risk I’ve taken has brought lessons, growth, and opportunities that have shaped my life and career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is rooted in celebrating the beauty of women’s friendships and sisterhood. Through Issasistahood, I’ve created a platform and products that inspire women to build meaningful connections, embrace vulnerability, and celebrate the joy that comes from true friendship. From the empowering stories we share to our friendship candle line, everything I create is designed to uplift, connect, and encourage women to prioritize positive relationships.

What sets me apart is that my work isn’t just a business, it’s deeply personal. Issasistahood was born from my own experience of finding and nurturing lifelong friendships. These bonds are a reflection of love, trust, and mutual support, and I wanted to share that with the world. I also draw inspiration from my own journey as a Black woman and from witnessing my mom’s relationship with her sister, which taught me the value of sisterhood early on.

Proudest Achievements
I’m most proud of starting Issasistahood with zero dollars and a leap of faith. Launching our friendship candle line was a risk, but seeing how it resonated with women and brought joy into their lives has been so rewarding. Another milestone I cherish is the community we’ve built—women sharing their stories, attending our events, and finding inspiration in our mission.

The Journey
Getting to where I am today professionally wasn’t easy. Starting a business with no funding, juggling the responsibilities of being a new mom, and navigating the uncertainties of entrepreneurship were all challenges. I overcame these by staying committed to my vision, leaning on my incredible support system, and reminding myself why I started Issasistahood in the first place.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that connection is everything. Whether it’s the connections we make with friends, family, or the women we serve through Issasistahood, those relationships are the foundation of success and fulfillment. I’ve also learned that authenticity resonates. Sharing my story and being vulnerable has helped others feel seen and understood.

What I Want the World to Know
Issasistahood isn’t just a brand, it’s a movement. It’s about celebrating women, creating spaces for meaningful connection, and showing that sisterhood is powerful. I want the world to know that friendship is transformative, and my mission is to inspire women everywhere to embrace and nurture those bonds.

Through my art, I hope to leave a legacy of love, connection, and empowerment for women of all ages, races, and walks of life.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! My journey with Issasistahood wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible women who have shaped my understanding of friendship and sisterhood. First and foremost, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. Watching her relationship with her sister growing up was one of the most beautiful examples of sisterhood I’ve ever seen. The way they supported, loved, and uplifted each other through every season of life left a lasting impression on me. It made me want to create that same kind of unshakable bond with my friends and inspire other women to do the same.

I also want to celebrate the women of Issasistahood: Anne-Marie, Nikka, Amber, Thomia, and Fransceca. These amazing women have been my rock and a constant source of encouragement. From our first international trip together to every life event we’ve celebrated since, they’ve shown me what true friendship looks like and have been the heart and soul of this journey.

Additionally, I want to recognize the larger community of women who have supported Issasistahood—the women who’ve attended our events, purchased our candles, and shared their own stories of friendship. Your faith in our mission has fueled my passion and reminded me that this work is about more than just friendship—it’s about building a legacy of connection and love.

Lastly, a special shoutout goes to my daughter Shia. She’s a daily reminder of the importance of creating a world filled with love and connection for the next generation. My journey wouldn’t be complete without the lessons I’ve learned from these relationships.
