We had the good fortune of connecting with Codi McIvor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Codi, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I would say hard work and dedication. without these two things I would not be where I am today and I truly believe people notice when you are putting your hard work towards your brand. I also believe you need to truly love what you are doing as that will push you even more to succeed with your brand.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Interview Host / Content Creator in the music industry and when I first started I really wanted to try and bring something to Alberta that I felt was missing and that’s when I created my online series “This Is Codi” where I interview music artists and giving them another platform to promote their new music or upcoming shows on. Building this interview series hasn’t been easy as I’ve had to take some “No’s” from artist/management teams that I’d love to have on the show however I told myself one day that I will never take “No” as a No, I will take it as a “not right now” and try to figure out how to take my series go to the next level and find what’s missing or how I can strive to be better and interest these level of artists.

Since I’ve started this series I’ve met and have become friends with so many different artists in this industry and has allowed me to succeed as a videographer for them at their live shows. along with this there has been some accomplishments such as, I made it to the second ballot for Video Director of the year at the Canadian Country Music Awards on my first year eligible and I never thought that would have been possible for me and now I’m in the first ballot for the Alberta Country Music Awards for Industry person of the year and along this journey I’ve worked along side artists such as Jade Eagleson, High Valley, Aaron Goodvin, Drew Gregory, Ryan Lindsay, Hailey Benedict & more.

When you come and have a look at my content you get interviews / video content of some of your favourite artists and I’m definitely striving to take both of these things to the next level with a new interview series under ThisIsCodi so stay tuned for that along with hopefully getting involved with some tours this upcoming summer. A lot of things are in the works to allow me to bring the artist to the fans which is what I was hoping to do whether its online interviews, Behind the scene moments, or even going live on instagram when I am backstage with some of these artists and allowing for you to connect with them personally through there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone came to visit me for the first time in Edmonton, Alberta I would take them to one of the biggest malls in North America called West Edmonton Mall that has a water park, amusement park, skating rink, restaurants and of course shopping. Maybe show them our beautiful river valley for scenery and then I would take them for a bite to eat at MEAT BBQ or Tres Carneles which is a fantastic taco place. After we eat I’d love to take them to a music show if we have any going on that night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is a few I’d like to shoutout and thank as I wouldn’t be where I am without these few and many more. Lets start with Hailey Benedict who is a Country Artist from Alberta, she was the first person to introduce the Country Music Alberta Awards show to me as I never knew that it even existed when I started this career. I attended my first awards show because of her and thats where I was able to build connections and meet many artists that were apart of Country Music Alberta. This leads me to my next shoutout to Country Music Alberta, without them and what they have created they have given me opportunities to do this job and I wouldn’t have met all the great artists I’ve met within this industry if it wasn’t for this organization.

The last person I’d like to thank and shoutout is Drew Gregory who is also a Country Artist from Alberta who I have been working with for a few years doing some video projects with him and he is one person that took a chance on me and gave me the opportunity build and grow my craft along with him while he continued building his music career. We’ve become a great team and great friends and that goes along way in this industry.
