We had the good fortune of connecting with Coach Chelsi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Coach, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people think branding and marketing means logos, mesmerizing colors, and aesthetics but, what shifts brands from basic to best is not primarily visuals, but rather the feelings they evoke.
Maya Angelou said it like this, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” We develop brands that make people feel by using an emotionally intelligent approach to branding and marketing.
Our first conversation with clients is never about their favorite color or font. We’re much more interested in understanding their business profile to translate their unique identity, selling proposition, and brand voice into campaigns and content.
Let’s say you were a business owner in the wellness industry who loves hot pink. After understanding your business, our priority would be to build content tailored for your target audience. With them in mind, we may recommend hues of blue to evoke emotions of serenity and security for a peaceful experience.
Pop Quiz: What came first, the visuals or the values?
Most outsiders are unaware of the reason they are so loyal to their favorite brand but, as branding and marketing experts, we know it’s because of the emotions and experiences a business offers through visuals that attract us and words that appeal to us.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Social Shifter LLC. is a full-service digital media agency that helps business owners and entrepreneurs’ brand and market their small businesses.
I suppose you can say we confidently launched this business using the law of supply and demand. Coach Andrea and I had an abundant supply of creative skill and business acumen and observed that our respective communities, in Los Angeles and Atlanta, demanded a way to do business digitally. It was upsetting to see Black businesses misrepresented or missing key marketing elements that are costing them, or worst, forcing them to shut down. We recognized this as an opportunity and became the official solution for those needing to successfully shift their business on October 27, 2020.
Since then, we’ve learned that what sets us apart is our client outcomes. Clients come to us for a website design or a social media campaign for their product launch and leave with a perennial strategy that speaks their target audience’s language.
It was not easy becoming a six-figure business in under two years, but it was possible because we are crazy enough to believe that success belongs to us. We experienced a lot from stagnant seasons to overwhelm due to limited capacity but, what kept us going was our willingness to persevere.
It was disappointing to see our numbers plateau after a few profitable months. But it was during that season that we were able to increase our digital resources and publish our popular Engagement Social Media Templates for brands on a budget. Overwhelm and our limited capacity challenged us to automate our systems and, when that couldn’t contain us, to expand our team.
We attribute our success to our mindset to view obstacles as an opportunity to grow and hope that the Social Shifter brand ignites business owners to commit to dreaming big, branding boldly, and marketing with a strategy that makes cents!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My Social Shifter team is out of state so, I’m going to give you the VIP treatment that I’d give them.
1. We’d start out with brunch, which as you know is a staple in Atlanta. If we were going for a daytime social vibe, I’d say Breakfast at Barneys because of its stylish atmosphere and most creative comfort food like “soul rolls” and a nostalgic peanut butter jelly cocktail.
2. Next, we’d head to Atlantic Station for their weekend Maker’s Market that features local entrepreneurs and to me, feels like a mini-festival. You never know what you’re going to find but I guarantee you will bring something home whether it’s jewelry, home décor, soaps and or candles. My first stop is always at @Lillies80 for their handmade natural and vegan soap and lotion. Chamomile me please.
3. I’m a dog mom, so I can’t forget the pups. I highly recommend to take them on a stroll in the iconic Piedmont Park! I love it because it’s a park, playground and hiking trail all in one. Plus, it has off-the-leash doggie areas divided by sizes which I love so, my little boy Mylo can’t hang with the big dogs just yet!
4. After, because we worked up an appetite, we’d go home get dressed to impress for a delicious night on the town at The Fellaship, established by NFL player, Cam Newton, where my colleague @BJWeston serves as the top chef. The environment is first class. They literally roll out a blue carpet upon your entry and maintain the posh vibes with a fire R&B/Hip Hop Playlist and even better food. The New Zealand lamb chops served with bourbon and rosemary gastrique is what you want to order, thank me later.
5. Lastly, after a long day of fun or work it’s nothing better than waking up randomly at 2am and going to the….SPA! Jeju Spa is a Korean Traditional Bath House that meets your wellness and beauty needs with several sauna rooms each at different temperatures, a heated pool, and even an eatery. I love it because it’s affordable, clean, and did I mention it’s open 24/7? Treat yourself!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friend, Coach Tyra of @prayplanandprofit. She constantly stresses the importance of having a “team for the task,” and, every day I am so grateful to be surrounded by brilliant, talented, no drama, all commas type of women!
