We had the good fortune of connecting with Chynelle Brownlee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chynelle, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision I made that contributed to my success is moving to Atlanta.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a master hairstylist since 2005. I enjoy helping others feel good about themselves. Our hair plays a major role in how we perceive ourselves to be and how others perceive us, good or bad. If I can spread some light, I’m all for it. I moved to Atlanta in 2017 and again in 2019 to pursue and execute my passion in hair. I had stopped doing hair full time in 2015 to 2017 I worked full time and was a part-time student working on my Bachelor’s degree. I graduated in 2017 and already had my mind set up to move to Atlanta to pursue another dream of doing hair full-time and running my own businesses. In the mist of transitioning the second time I lost my father, grandmother and CoVid hit and for awhile salons were closed. I still pushed got my own room at a threading and wax shop with zero clients. A couple months later I decided to take my career to the next level by learning how to do Microlinks I-tips. Microlinks is what we call a top tier extension service. If installed and maintained properly adds length and density to your natural hair. Now not only do I install Microlinks I teach others how to install them also. What I learned along the way is to never give up no mater how many times you need to re group and start over, I want the world to know that I genuinely care about people, sometimes that can be a good and a bad thing but the good out way the bad, The more good you do the more good comes back to you. You are in control of your destiny by what you think. You are able to manifest the life that you want just by believing you’re already there. Crazy yeah I know, try it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I am fairly new to the area and been grinding since I got here to tell the truth I don’t get out much. You know if you don’t plan right you can spend majority of your time in traffic lol. But I will say the number one spot I would recommend is Slutty Vegan. You don’t even have to be vegan they will still embrace you and they have this amazing energy. Oh and its not a throw tactic because the food is off the chain.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Unfortunately I had little support from family and friends. So much so that I moved from my hometown. I could shoutout Atlanta for welcoming me, showing me what I needed to do to become successful. Atlanta showed me successful people that looked like me striving. The love and spirit of Atlanta, the entrepreneurialism here is unmarked!
