We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My entire life I’ve believed in taking risks and not playing it safe. The success I am finding currently is because I decided to take a risk and leave corporate America to focus on my goals and aspirations. The VII Group would not be where we are today without the ability to put my faith in God and know that no matter the outcome my family would be okay. It has been almost 2 years since I’ve become a full time entrepreneur and a lot has happened. For 7 years I put my all into Holiday Hoopsgiving high school edition and making the transition to include the college edition last year was certainly all due to my family and I’s ability to navigate uncharted waters. It had been 20 years since something of this caliber was brought to the city and taking the chance to bet on us; my wife and our team, is how we made it the successful event that it was.

What should our readers know about your business?
The VII Group started with my desire to allow high school teams all over the country to showcase their talents. It was an opportunity for kids to play teams they may not otherwise see from different states and regions while allowing them to do community service with our organization, Play For Orange. Holiday Hoopsgiving, has grown to include college teams and is now known not only as a national High School event but also a nationally known college basketball neutral site event held at State Farm Arena. We are really excited about what’s to come and couldn’t be more proud of the work we have done thus far.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in the city consist of many different areas, from The Battery where there are a ton of great restaurants and get a chance to support the Atlanta Braves, to the Virginia Highlands where you can grab a drink and/or a cigar just to decompress at Highland Cigar lounge, to Ponce City market which is the best of both worlds from shopping to dinning. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and my team are really my backbone. Without them I wouldn’t be able to do all that I do. They understand the endless travel. They help us with everything from marketing, to social media, to memos, and emails. They are our support system and they exceed all expectations and tasks that are asked of them. Our success is their success.
