We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Sterling and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am a native of Atlanta, Georgia. I grew up in South West Atlanta in the “Fourth Ward” area. I spent several years in foster care from the tender age of 4 years old until 11 years of age. As a young boy, I have always known I wanted to be someone great never really knowing it could totally be possible because of who I was and where I came from. So, a big part of my early adult years were spent in survival mode. My upbringing impacted me in a bittersweet way for a huge part of my life because although I knew my mom did her best, I still felt robbed of so many childhood memories I felt many others were very fond to have. I met my father for a weekend, that was short lived. We never spent anymore time together after that and my father deceased shortly after. I went on to graduate high school at North Druid Hills and attended DeKalb Technical College for HVAC in Commercial Maintenance. After having my own children, J’hene and Christopher Jr, I knew I needed to leave a legacy. I have always been a part of community help projects whether prison ministry, feeding the homeless and/or just helping with local events. So, after pondering on creating a legacy for my children, I knew it would involve something that would bring financial gain but be a huge pillar in the Atlanta Community. Moving others, fit perfectly for me, so after six years of moving gigs, I decided it was time to expand and get a household name that could last beyond me. I obtained my LLC, in 2022 and I am working daily to become a better version of myself. Business life has taught me a lot about pride, integrity and delayed gratification. I have to remind myself daily that I am building a legacy from scratch and not from inheritance. The man I am today is changing every chance he gets and staying hopeful that the future will bring out the best in me for my family. I am most proud to be a Future Husband to my Fiance’, Cumi and Father to our beautiful blended Family of 6 (London 12, Leslie 10, Jhene 5, and Christopher Jr, 3).

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

SM is grounded in expert, equipped and efficient services ranging from local to long distance moving. Whether your move is from one room to the next, down the street or out-of-state. Sterling Movers has you covered. SM specializes in commercial, residential, packing and delivery. We recently added junk removal and a turn key cleaning service. We are very excited about celebrating our 1st year of official business coming up in November 2023. Business life has not been easy, it has a great reward but if you don’t have discipline you could easy want to give up. I would literally tell any aspiring business owners to know your why and visit it often and never give into the temptation that any body else’s dream is better to push than your own. Many challenges happen in business daily but you have to face your challenges and keep going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is a great place for entertainment and I’ve literally become that Dad that loves hitting up new parks, fairs, and community holiday events and all you can eat buffets. However, some specific places I would go in Atlanta would be nice would be Busy Bee Cafe on MLK, Atlantic Station, Main Event, Lenox Mall, EPIC Theater, Ponce City Market, Krog Street Market and Sky View Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I would like to thank God for all he does for me on a daily basis. He has always looked out for me and kept me well. Secondly, I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to my Fiance’ Cumi, who is one of my biggest supporters. She is always pushing me to go another level and she is always thoughtful of all our children and their futures. When we crossed each other’ s paths our children collectively were always our main topic. We wanted a big, loving and warm environment. We wanted to make sure they would always feel safe, were happy and knew the power of prayer. Also, kudos to London, our oldest for contacting Shoutout Atlanta for this Awesome interview. Our Family collectively is what brings me joy. Our children is what drives me daily. In a few years, all the sacrifices will be worth it. I am also thankful for all my extended family, friends, colleagues, basketball team members and many people who have invested in my business, brand and legacy for my children. Whether through booking a move, junk removal, or just plain supported us by liking our page, sending people our way, giving me materials and tools, etc. I appreciate all the joy and love from everyone.
