We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian “Uno” Kimbrough and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian “Uno”, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with my idea for my business and brand because I just wanted to see positive messaging in streetwear. Being a gun violence survivor, at first my brand was trying to get the word about gun violence but it became so much bigger. Now we have a nonprofit, a curriculum for the kids and a dope brand that grabs the attention of the ones that’s coming up.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets us apart from the others is we are building something greater than ourselves. We started off trying to make an impact with our company in 2015 just doing public speaking engagements at middle schools speaking about gun violence and then the thought was to put out merchandise for the youth to strike their interest. My most proud moment is knowing that I leave my mark on a kid whether they purchase an article of clothing or if I’m doing a speaking engagement. I got here to where I am today from six years of trial and error. In those six years I’ve learned to balance workload, maintain my creativity and seek out new things for me to learn in the business. No it wasn’t easy I can tell you that and I’ve took some time overcoming my challenges. A few things that still stems from my accident is learning how to talk again and that was a big thing because I do speaking engagements. Managing inventory and sourcing inventory as a newbie is HARD especially when you have no help but it gets easier when you build and assemble your team. I want the world to know that Revive Minds isn’t your normal “brand” and that you can’t place us in a box. We have a nonprofit, curriculum for students and along with the streetwear we give back to inner city programs that fight against gun violence. With our constant efforts we were granted a proclamation from the Mayor “Revive Minds Day” in my hometown of Little Rock, Arkansas. We feel like clothing should be treated as a walking billboard so we make each design with that idea in mind.Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Slutty Vegan and Mr. Everything for sure. Drinks at 255, edgewood bars and cap it off with MJQ on a good night and the battery.Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout God first and foremost (like I just won an award lol) but I also want to shoutout my family. They’ve been so supportive of me in doing this. From not having a direction, structure and trying to figure this whole thing out to now moving with direction, a little bit more structure and STILL trying to figure this whole thing out. They nursed me back to health when the accident occurred so for that? This shoutout is for them!
