We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christian, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
Yes, I do have a few favorite quotes and affirmations that I believe contribute to my overall success. The first one is “Hard work out does talent any day.” I love this one because this highlights how you don’t have to be the most talented person in the room, but if you work hard and stay consistent, you usually get better and excel above competition. My next quote that I’ve carried with me along my journey is “Passion Alway Wins.” When I see other individuals I consider successful, I see a passion and a hunger for what they’re doing. For me, when there was nothing else left, there was passion for the art of music and building relationships. Being diligent pays off, and most times you’ll have to do it under the watch of nonbelievers. The last quote would be “To whom much is given, much is required”. When you recognize you have a purpose and you’re called to be a leader, there’s a responsibility that comes with promotion. It’s an absolute joy to encourage, inspire, mentor and learn with other counterparts, as I set out to keep leading a charge.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There’s so many twists, turns, ups and downs, and detours along the way to this unfinished story. I had a time in my life around 2018 where I wasn’t really sure what direction to go with music. I had a couple situations that completely fell through working with some credible artists. I decided to go back into corporate for awhile. At the time, Quicken Loans in Detroit MI was doing a mass hiring and a colleague of mine slipped my name in the hat. I began working with the F.O.C in 2019, and though I didn’t understand how this connected to my artistic passion, I had to trust God. I immediately began to notice the benefits of being on campus with like-minded business professionals. I noticed there were so many opportunities, through the companies platform to expose my talent and my business. I took full advantage, as well as becoming a valued employee. I attended Forbes 30 under 30 that same year and it took my Salute Tee Brand to a another level. I was able to submit an idea to the companies cheese factory, entitled “Amrockers” which was derived from the company Amrock that I worked with through the Family Of Companies. I was also able to feature in a couple of Quicken Loan commercials, as well as performing at the Rock Honors Award Show. This was all within a year and a half of my employment. Creating opportunities is key.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week long trip would include stops at the Aquarium, Stone Mountain, 6 Flags, Coco Cola ,the Braves Stadium and certainly the Mercedes Benz Stadium. We would visit the Malls, Lenox Mall, Saks an Fifth, Mall of Georgia, Perimeter Mall etc. There are so many great places to eat in Atlanta, I think we would try the Sun Dial for the wow factor but there are some really great mom and pop eateries through the West End, Edgewood and throughout Decatur. Buckhead also provides great places to eat and nice scenery for tourists. A week with me would also involve a trip to some of my wholesale hot spots. I’m able to get some of the best products for the best prices, from clothes to shoes to vehicles and homes. A quick pitstop to the recording studio is never out of the question, and last but not least Tuesday evenings meet me at my meet and greet location, Lilys in Buckhead where they play my records and host the night.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m extremely grateful to God first and foremost. I’ve got some great mentors and I’ve been able to identify what pieces of their counsel continue to help me in building a legacy. My mentors are spread across a few different industries. That’s one thing that I encourage others to take note of. Always make sure to look outside of the box as well. Whether it’s Jeremy Anderson, Ashton Henry, Ryan Leslie, Eric Thomas, (the hip hop preacher) Draymond Green or Ra Scott (father of Kansas City Chiefs Dorian O Daniel). They all have shared valuable methods and knowledge that have been instrumental for me. And to think… I was just a kid with big dreams, from Grand Rapids Michigan.
