We had the good fortune of connecting with Christa Collins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christa, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think it’s super important to have a healthy work life balance. I’m not able to be the best I can be if I’m burnt out or if I feel like I’ve been cooped up for too long. But when I have a commission due or project deadline I always prioritize getting it done. Sometimes it can be hard to walk away from a painting or whatever the project is, but it’s also good to take a break and get out and find inspiration in the world. I get energized from taking time to myself.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a visual artist, I make mixed media abstract paintings and sculptures. I am also a musician, and produce a lot of my own music! I am almost completely self taught, so I’ve had to ask a lot of questions along the way to get to where I am today. As well as consistent research to learn how to do the things I want to. I never want to stop learning new things and continuing to push myself. I love being multi faceted, but in the past I definitely struggled with feeling overwhelmed with my passion for pursuing both art and music. Now I just focus on one project at a time, and go with whatever I am feeling most excited and inspired by. If I have a new idea for a song I’ll spend a few days focusing on that, and then take a break and work on a painting. Right now I’ve been working super hard on my artwork, preparing for my first big solo show at an art gallery! But I have a lot of exciting musical projects that I will be finishing up soon and hope to release this spring!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I like restaurants that are more cozy and intimate. One of my favorite spots to get dinner is Delbar in Inman park, and that whole area is great for going out too! Bon Ton is one of my go to spots as well, they have the best cocktails!
I really enjoy going out to gallery openings on the weekends as well because it’s the best of both worlds! It’s fun and great to socialize with other creatives, and I always leave feeling inspired and motivated.
The high museum also has super fun Friday nights with Jazz music.
And Little five points has great shopping, it’s a great area to take friends or family because there’s so many options for everyone!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am really blessed to have a family that is super loving and encouraging of my dreams. Most everyone in my family is a creative person of some sort, so we all connect on that level and ask each other for input on the projects we have going on. My husband and also I collaborate on artwork and music, he is amazing and super supportive.
