We had the good fortune of connecting with Chrishawndra Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chrishawndra, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Since Literacy in the HOOD was established we have distributed over 750000 to families in need
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As Founder and Executive Director of Literacy in the H.O.O.D. (Helping Out Our Disenfranchised) it is so important to understand that not all families have access to Quality: Housing.-Education-Medical-Food)Grocery so Literacy in the HOOD connects Parents, Children, Caregivers, and Educators with resources help Families with any of those disparities. 66% Clevelanders function illiterate so helping one main goal is to combat illiteracy and help Families raise their Reading Levels.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cleveland has the 2nd biggest Art District so we would definitely hang out all around Downtown! The Library is Amazing in downtown so much rich history and tons of learning materials
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Great Lakes Science Center
Both in one day and eat at
Shooters on the Lake
If it’s Summer or Spring we jumping in Good times lll take a stroll around Lake Erie and have Dinner on the boat
We would stay downtown at the Drury Inn so we could be close to Everything!
We would definitely show scenary of Public Square and head to Jacks Casino, play games and eat at the Buffet or if they not really hungry one of the fine restaurants inside the Casino
We would take in the Arts at the Museums and hang out on Wednesday at University Circle ls “Wade Oval Wednesday” .
We would eat at Pickle Bills if they love seafood
Definitely going to see Cavs or Browns play depending on the time of year they come.
We would visit a Public Library and Couny Library to see the differences between the two
We would Read to local Daycare or Headstart so they can understand the work Literacy in the HOOD does .
