We had the good fortune of connecting with Chinwe’ Foster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chinwe’, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Africa…in Nigeria. When I was about 7 years old, my family moved to Columbus, Ohio which is where I grew up. As Nigerians, one of the many things that was impressed upon me by my parents was that if I studied and worked hard at anything I put my mind to, that I could be the best at it. Growing up a B wasn’t okay…because my parents instilled in me that an A was not impossible and was what I should be striving for. My parents did not allow us to accept or think that it was okay to bring home anything less than an “A”…..because they knew that we (my siblings and I) were capable of getting all As. Due to this, I always believed that I could achieve anything that I wanted if I studied and worked hard for it; that I could get an “A” in anything I put my mind to. This mindset helped me be successful from when I was a small child up until now. For example, when it was time for me to take the Georgia Bar to become a lawyer in Georgia, I knew that I was going to pass it the first time. Failure was not an option for me. And that is exactly what I did, passed it on the first try. After passing the bar, I knew that I wanted to be the best Attorney in the State of Georgia…and that is exactly what I’ve set out to be. Not the most famous, the richest (although this would be nice), or the most liked…but the best Attorney that walks into any courtroom. I don’t say this to be cocky, but I work very hard at what I do. I have a mindset that in every case that I take on, that I will achieve the best result for my client. This mindset, along with knowing and studying the law and working hard for my clients has helped me be very successful in what I do.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Owner and Managing Partner of Foster Law Firm, LLC. My main office is located in Stockbridge, GA but we also have a location in Midtown, Atlanta, GA. We practice Criminal Defense and Family Law. I decided to start my firm after leaving the Public Defender’s Office due to severe burnout with the practice of law. After taking a break from law for about a year, I realized that practicing law was my calling and I wanted to return to it. In deciding to start my firm, I used the Mission statement of my alma mater, Howard University School of Law, as a guide in how I wanted to frame my practice. Howard Law’s mission statement reads in part, “A lawyer’s either a social engineer or… a parasite on society … A social engineer [is] a highly skilled, perceptive, sensitive lawyer who [understands] the Constitution of the United States and [knows] how to explore its uses in the solving of problems of local communities and in bettering conditions of [it’s] citizens.” This belief system along with my work ethic and the work ethic of the people that I hire, sets my firm apart from other firms. We also strongly believe in being relatable to and with our clients. People who hire us are going through a very difficult time in their lives, they don’t just need legal representation, they need someone who they can trust and someone who they believe has their best interest in mind.

It has definitely not been easy and there have of course been challenges along the way, but I overcame those challenges by believing in God, believing in my self, working hard, not giving up and having a strong support system.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week long trip? I love Atlanta! There are so many things to do in the city.

Whether it was going to one of the many great restaurants in Atlanta, checking out a concert, going to an Atlanta Hawks game, going to the Battery to hang out, or going to the many events that are hosted almost daily in Atlanta, the possibilities are endless! I wouldn’t have an Itinerary, I would probably just say, “Let’s just Go!”

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would want to dedicate my shoutout to my Husband, Aundray Foster. When I left the Public Defenders office and decided to open up my firm in 2012, he played such a huge role in supporting me and providing a balance to allow me to grow my firm to what it is today. Whether it was financial or emotional support, he was always there to provide it. As my business started to take off and I needed help in managing the business aspect of running a firm, given that he has a background in business, he again jumped in and sacrificed so much to help get the business to where it is today. So I want to dedicate this to him as he has played such a tremendous role in getting me here today.
