Meet Cherith Fluker | Freelance Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cherith Fluker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cherith, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting WhatCherithinks was driven by a combination of passion and purpose. I love writing, and this passion has always been a core part of who I am. I wanted to share my insights on self-care, travel, and lifestyle-related topics because I believe in the power of storytelling to inspire and uplift others, particularly women.
Starting my freelancing business has allowed me the freedom to explore my creative ideas and connect with a broader audience on a deeper level. Additionally, the flexibility of freelancing lets me manage my time effectively and balance my professional and personal life. Ultimately, I want to make a meaningful impact through my words and contribute to the conversations around self-care and mindful living.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a freelance writer who runs my blog, WhatCherithinks. I have also written for various publications such as Chicken Soup for the Soul, Motherly, LakeLife 24/7, and Her View From Home, to name a few. What sets me apart is my ability to weave personal experiences with insightful perspectives on self-care, travel, and lifestyle topics. The work I’m most proud of is my contribution to Chicken Soup for the Soul. It’s a series many people are familiar with, and being part of it was a defining moment in my career. Being published in Chicken Soup was the moment I began to believe in myself as a writer.
Getting to where I am today professionally has not been easy. Balancing my freelance writing with a full-time career as Director of Professional Learning for an ed-tech company requires a lot of organization and planning. I overcome challenges by staying disciplined and managing my time effectively. This allows me to be my best in both roles.
Along the way, I’ve learned valuable lessons about perseverance, the importance of staying true to my voice, and the power of storytelling to connect with and inspire others. What I want the world to know about my brand and story is that WhatCherithinks is a testament to the power of passion and dedication. Through my writing, I aim to inspire others to take care of themselves and explore the world around them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a weeklong stay in Atlanta with my best friend, I’d focus on all things self-care and sightseeing. We’d start with a relaxing day at one of the many spas in the area to indulge in some therapeutic treatments. Then, we’d head to the Atlanta Botanical Garden for some peaceful nature walks and, of course, take a stroll or bike ride through Piedmont Park. We’d spend some time shopping and dining at Ponce City Market, searching for some cool wellness products. We’d check out the cute boutiques in the Virginia-Highland neighborhood and grab a bite at Murphy’s. We’d hit Lenox Square for upscale shopping and have lunch at True Food Kitchen. We would also have to check the city calendar to find out what shows, festivals and events are happening during the week and find one that fits our interests. There’s always so much fun going on in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mother. She has always instilled in me the belief that I can do whatever I set my mind to. Her unwavering support and encouragement have been my guiding light. Although she passed away a few years ago, her influence and love continue to inspire me every day. She was, and always will be, my biggest cheerleader. This shoutout is for her, with all my love and gratitude.
