We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsey Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process for XO Media & Design actually started off as a school project my senior year of college. After creating the idea of it for fun, I realized that I can do this as a real career since it included most of my self-interests. I graduated May 2020 when Covid first came about and shut everything down, which in a way, helped me have time to do my research about my industry and create a business that I could be very successful and before you knew it, I had my first client.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
To say that I have my own business is rewarding in itself. I believe that if you are able to work for yourself than you won and that’s what I continue to inspire to do. Research is key when it comes to running my business. Technology is always innovating and if I stay up to date with the changes, I am able to teach myself new things and then help out my clients. XO Media & Design is rapidly growing but I still face challenges everyday but it’s what I do to overcome those battles which makes me so successful. I am a Young, Black, Female Entrepreneur, I love saying that but my message to the world would be that you will fail, but it’s the determination and commitment that will help you complete those goals in life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One spot I love going to is Bonfire. It’s something about being outside, partying to your own vibe. The atmosphere feels free and there is so much to do.
