Meet Chelsea Favors | Master Cosmetologist & A Young Boss Doing It All

Hi Chelsea, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For a little girl from Winterville , Georgia I knew the only way up was to take a risk . I wasn’t always comfortable taking risks but I got uncomfortable in life and that feeling doesn’t sit well . I always needed to feel something different . Everyday I wake up READY to step into the unknown for my business, my future , and my next generation. I want girls like me to know that making one risk can change your whole life !

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I was in high school I just knew I wanted to be the black girl with lots of money and live a peaceful life. I could never really place my mind on one set career because I wanted to do it all. Anything that could make me money I wanted to do it . I have never limited myself I always told myself I would be successful in anything I pursue. What stuck to me and became my passion was making others feel beautiful! . CrushedBy. Chels came to me when I was 17 years old 3 months into cosmetology school. I was looking in the mirror after just cutting my relaxed ends off my hair I was bald headed but I felt free. I started taking clients on the floor and I got my first silk press and color . When I completed the service the look on my first clients face was beautiful she was so happy and the first thing she told me was “you made me look like somebody again” . I knew how that felft because I just had that moment with myself and it was amazing boom it was in that second my spark for love in natural hair had began.I got a little discouraged sometimes and tried to ignore my love for hair I would stop doing hair not be consistent because I wasn’t seeing the money I needed to see so I put my focus on other things but somehow it always found it’s way back to me . My clients would get upset when I stopped and one day sitting at a receptionist desk I wasn’t happy this was just about 1 year ago .I made a promise to myself to stop running from what I truly loved to do and that was my passion for showing love to natural hair the roots of our beauty  I wanted to be my own boss . I didnt care anymore even if I just had one client a day in the beginning this was what I wanted it to do and God would make a way if this was meant for me . From that day forward it was up ! I made that risk I finally did it . August 13,2022 CrushedByChels officially has its own location! None of it was easy but it was worth it . I’m not the rich black girl but I am the happy black girl doing what she loves and the riches will come because I finally surrendered to my passion. When you book with me know that I am there to show your hair tender love and care the experience will be amazing!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few years ago my answer to this question would be “oh bestfriend we turning up the whole week , we clubbing , and hanging out all night “!Today my answer to this question would be first “ bestfriend how has life been treating you ? “ what’s on your mind let’s go to the spa or let’s go do a dance class . Im entering my soft girl era lol ! Let’s do some things that can bring us peace . I would take her to my favorite park to walk , relax, and connect with nature . I would book a sip & paint class with one of the local artist in Athens.Ga ! We can go wine tasting or we can have a picnic. It’s the simple things that bring me joy now . Let’s take a day trip to the nearest beach . I be ready to travel and explore the unknown now let’s do something we’ve never done before my soul screams for that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be telling a bold face lie if I said there was no support on what I call my Journey of life. I had tons of support from my mother ,my family , friends , most all MAJOR love from strangers ! Yes you will get support from the ones who love you most but when I was building my business and my brand god placed people I didn’t even know im my life some became clients ( my dolls ) and some became apart of my tribe they never left my side .  If it wasn’t for my clients and my tribe my business wouldn’t be anything ! I wake up grateful for anyone place of my path in life because I learn something from everybody I come in contact with and that’s the amazing part of life. I give thanks to my ancestors as well for protecting and guiding me everyday and most of without GOD I’m nothing ! I am truly grateful for all of the things that I have now I can only imagine where my journey as a successful business woman will be in a few days , months , & years from now.
