We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheema and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheema, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The biggest push towards starting my own business was that I saw how hard I worked at my 9-5. I realized that I would much rather put that effort into building something I loved. I had already had a passion I was lucky enough to have worked at through the years as a hobby, and decided to work towards turning that into my full-time career. I noticed how easy it was to choose a path with some type of security and predictability, even if that meant being unhappy, and I was strongly opposed to that route.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a producer, recording artist, and have just entered into the scene of Djing. Lately I have been mainly specializing in the genres R&B, hiphop/rap, Island beats, synthwave, and house. I have a complete obsession with synthesizers and am known for blending multiple genres to create unique instrumentals with a synthy vibe to them. When I DJ I mostly play lofi, and deep house. I take so much pride in continuing to be unique. I not only want to enjoy this amazing creative journey, but influence others to follow their passions as well. I am most excited about getting back to the live performance space one this pandemic eases up, and working on my next house music project “C0l0urs”. In terms of my career professionally, I know it hasn’t taken off yet. I have worked hard building somewhat of an audience on Instagram and I am now focused on finding my fanbase. The most challenging part of that has been creating the process that works for me and keeping it consistent. It is really hard being patient and not comparing myself to my roles models, but I know it’s all about the journey and not the destination. I now use the phrase, “find the method to YOUR madness” to re-center myself when I feel I am becoming too influenced by the timelines and success of other creatives. A huge lesson I learned is that things happen exactly when the are supposed to for me. i don’t need to rush or live up to anyone else’s expectations. my journey is mine, and mine alone and I trust my own judgment. I want the world to know I showcase my journey to inspire and motivate other women and creatives to go after their dreams and passions. We are all given talents and I encourage everyone to share whatever it is. Love yourself, and love what you do, because the world needs authentic creatives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Firstly, we would be out early morning to go visit the Toronto Islands. while there, we would hike the hills and admire the wilderness with my Bluetooth Marley speaker bumping some house music the entire time. After that, we would hit up “The Rec Room” for some arcade time. Following our video game matches, we would then go to Yonge Street “Warehouse” for some drinks on the patio. Lastly, we would walk the “Kensington Market” to try some new foods, and visit the record store “Jpoison Records and Clothing”. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to “Loop Sessions Toronto”. They really helped me gain a huge amount of confidence in my craft, and they offered a safe space for me to showcase my work and grow. I would also love to shoutout “Bitter&Broke”.They gave me the opportunity to do my first ever live set performance which has attracted so many other opportunities for me in the live performance space. There have also been so many people along this journey who have shared and supported my music without even knowing me personally on Instagram and I am so grateful to them for their continued support of my work and passion.
