We had the good fortune of connecting with Charon Leonard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charon, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Dedication and perseverance- I always make sure that I take time to focus on PEACE Atlanta and the greater good of the organization first. Life may happen and at any given moment, I may have a few side projects in the works but the community that I serve has always been my top priority. No matter what gets thrown at me, I keep going! I’ve also learned over the years that complaining and worrying are the thieves of joy. I can only focus on what I can control and whatever I can’t control, I pray on it and move forward. Life is too short to dwell on frivolous matters.

What should our readers know about your business?
PEACE Atlanta, Inc. is a supportive housing organization. We provide transitional housing, career services, case management, 3rd party referral counseling services and optional etiquette and financial literacy courses. I am most proud that we have an amazing team of supporters that understand our mission and encourage us to provide the level of support to the community that I’ve always envisioned. We are unique because we’ve managed to open four group homes in less than two years which helps service individuals who struggle with mental health, veterans with disabilities, individuals post incarceration and single women and children. We are not just a housing facility, we are a community of members that recognize those who have been impacted by unfortunate circumstances that may happen in life but wish to actively seek positive reinforcements.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend on a trip to Milk and Honey, which is an amazing brunch restaurant. We would visit Centennial park, the Botanical gardens, the Georgia aquarium and the Atlanta zoo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I would like to thank The Most High for the favor that He’s shown to me and this organization as a whole. There have been many people, books and organizations that have contributed to our success. I would like to thank our Board of Directors, President, Eriana Wagner, our team of advisors and every single one of our donors. I would like to shout out our partnering companies: Helping Hands of Paulding County, Paulding County Chamber of Commerce, Tallapoosa Mental Health Court, Polk County One Stop, Polk County Mental Health Court, Highland Rivers, Mercy Care of Atlanta, Copper Stone Investments and the Goodwill of North Georgia.
