We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?

It’s funny how many hours you must put in your business for it to be successful. Especially when you’re building a business from “scratch”. I always wanted to be a business owner, but my favorite hobby in my downtime in the past was sleep. Needless to say, since I have started my own business, I’ve made a lot of changes to my work life balance…one of the main being I hardly ever get sleep!

What most people don’t know about small business owners, is that many of us work more than one job. So Monday through Friday, I work a normal schedule like most Americans. On top of this, as a small business owner, I have to wear many hats (i.e. marketing, website, events; accounting) that can eat away at your work life balance. There are no scheduled work days when you run your own business.  And, as your business grows, it leaves less time for work life balance, but it’s just something you have to figure out along the way.

A few things, I have implemented to help with the balancing include: meeting with customers later in the day, so it doesn’t affect any family time and trying to keep one weekend a month open to just focus on and do things with my family. I have also started focusing on growing the business more by hiring help. I have added 4 people to the team who help in various ways.

So to answer the question: how has my balance changed? Less sleep and more work!

My work life balance is still not where I want it to be, but it surely is getting better everyday. Carving time out for family…and just life, in general,  is very important!

Our Brand is based on Excellence not Perfection! We set a high expectation level when customers book us.

There are many entertainment companies in any market. Prices ranges vary from real cheap to super expensive. When customers book with us, we want their experience to be unmatched. Most entertainment vendors don’t cater to their customers. Well, Beat Box is different! We customize our approach to match what our clients want. In our price, we include 2 pre-meetings to help make sure everything goes well the day of the event.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My itinerary for my friends would include:

Place to visit: Coke Factory, Georgia Aquarium & Zoo, Visit to the New Falcons stadium to watch a game, Stone Mountain, and the Fox Theater

Places to eat: The Varsity, Pappadeaux Seafood, Gladys Knight, City BBQ, The Juicy Crab

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As a startup company, you need to develop those relationships and you need a few people who will take a chance on you. For me, those people are Jeff and Susan Buffington at Cold Creek Farm. They opened their doors for to us and our business has slowly grown year over year. If it had not been for their kindness, I’ve would have possibly given up. Now, we are on over 8 Venues’ preferred lists and the number keeps growing!
