We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles T. Massey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charles T., what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It is something that I believe chose me! Although I had worked in corporate America for 30 years, as a New Year’ resolution in 2018, I decided that I wanted to try my hand at acting. I had been introduced to the arts and being creative early on as a child. I used to draw things around the house and also tried my hand at portraits. I also attended an art carnival every Saturday in Harlem where we would do arts & crafts, but later on we participated in writing a small script (which we acted out). Fast forward to the present since being released from my corporate gig in 2019, I have had opportunites to be on set of some of the biggest TV shows, films and music videos! Through hard work and being passionate, my “second” career has put me in position to make an even bigger impact.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have grown to love the art of acting! It’s exciting to learn something new everyday, as well as watch the network of people that I know and recently connected with in this industry succeed. Since I began in 2019, I have been blessed to audition for hundreds of projects and get booked for so many as well. The process for being selected is out of your hands, but I always try and put my best work into each audition. It’s a great feeling when someone refers you because that means that they respect your work besides the fact you’re a good fit for the role. I have definitely learned to never take anything for granted and never take anything personal in this industry. You are going to hear “No” far more than “Yes”, so get very used to that! As a now working actor whose career started in his 50’s with no experience, I hope to inspire someone that may think they’ve reached a point where they feel that their age limits them. Opportunities will always be there for the taking, but you have to throw your hat in the arena for a chance to win.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s always some great spots to eat or hang out wherever you may go. You just do your homework or better yet, get some referrals! Melba’s in New York, Buddakan in Philly , Companion in Atlanta, Stan’s in Washington D.C., Momofuku in Las Vegas, Banko Cantino in West Palm Beach

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is dedicated to 2 people who were very instrumental in my life from day 1: my mother & grandmother! From raising me as a child to helping groom me into the man I am today, I am who I am because of what they instilled in me. The males in my family were a good support system, but those 2 were my rocks, hands down!
