We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles “DJ CSharp” Hardnett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charles “DJ CSharp”, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success as a DJ has been my commitment to continuous learning and adaptation. From my early days in the 80s to my current gigs, I’ve always sought to improve my skills and knowledge. Engaging in structured training, like the DJ Academy certification, has been pivotal in refining my craft and boosting my confidence. Additionally, building connections within the DJ community has provided invaluable support and insights, helping me stay relevant in an ever-evolving industry. This blend of education, community engagement, and a passion for music has shaped my brand and allowed me to connect with diverse audiences effectively.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my unique journey of rediscovery and growth in DJing, spanning decades and phases of life. I’m most proud of my commitment to continuous learning and my ability to connect with diverse audiences through music. My professional path has been shaped by a mix of passion, structured training, and community involvement.

Getting to where I am today was not easy. After a long hiatus, I faced challenges like reconnecting with the evolving music scene and mastering new techniques. I overcame these hurdles through dedicated practice, enrolling in the DJ Academy, and building relationships within the DJ community. Each setback became a learning opportunity, reinforcing the importance of resilience and adaptability.

The lessons I’ve learned include the value of structured education, the power of community support, and the significance of being open to new genres and styles. I want the world to know that my journey is a testament to the idea that it’s never too late to pursue your passions. My brand represents a blend of experience, enthusiasm, and a commitment to creating memorable experiences for every audience I play for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week to explore Atlanta can be amazing. My itinerary would be anchored in good vibes and food. Some of the activities I would plan would be going to a sporting event like the Falcons, Braves or Hawks. Checking out a movie at one of dine in theatres like Cine Bistro. Check out jazz night at the high museum or hanging out at Politan Row. Some of my favorite restaurants would be The Capital Grill, the Atlanta Fish Market, Davios, the Iberian pig, Marcus Bar and Grille, and Restaurant 356.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout would be to my friends and family who encouraged me during my early mixtape days and throughout my journey. Also, I want to acknowledge the DJ community and fellow DJs I’ve connected with over the years, as their insights and camaraderie have been vital in my growth.
