We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlene Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charlene, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most outsiders are unaware of the fact that astrologers and psychics are used by corporations and individual businesses all the time. It goes without saying that individuals who possess special gifts are utilized by the government, corporations and individuals all the time. While they may not admit to it throughout history people in positions of power seek out astrologers and psychic mediums to get an edge on their future. Edgar Casey was visited by the most powerful people that run our country when he was alive for knowledge about their future. Edgar Casey forecast the fall of the stock market and it came up in their session. The wealthy who received consultations knew exactly what to do before the crash. Today many who receive a phone call or email in advance of information about a stock tanking and sell their shares immediately would later be convicted of insider trading. People in positions of power seek out experts to gain insight into all areas of their lives. Kings and queens have consulted astrologers and psychics for thousands of years. Nancy Regan consulted an astrologer daily about Ronald Regan when he was the president. The astrologer picked out certain dates to be aware of negative or fatal influences. He was aware of the threats, but the astrologer was helpful in making Nancy aware of these dates to take extra precaution. Regan was shot but having known the dates in advance was prepared and recovered.
In 2008, I got a private tour of the pentagon thanks to my friend who at the time was a colonel in the army and was working for General George W. Casey and General David Huntoon. I had the privilege of seeing her office and meeting General Huntoon who I had predicted she would work for a man named David a year before she transferred to working at the pentagon. He asked me about my background, and I told him that I was an astrologer, psychic medium and a hypnotist. General Huntoon responded that he too had studied hypnosis and worked in the army with remote viewing. In conclusion, most people are unaware that throughout history people in positions of power and governments seek out astrologers and psychics for help. The bottom line is if you are an expert in your field, you will be hired and dismissed for services rendered.

I started receiving messages from the spirit world at the age of seven. By the time I turned eleven my mother began teaching me astrology and how to read an ephemeris which has the planets listed each day at midnight or noon by degrees through the astrological signs. When I turned eighteen just out of high school, I found a professional astrologer to teach me astrology and the calculations on how to set up a birth chart. At the age of twenty I took the only examination at city hall in Atlanta offered once a year to become a certified professional astrologer. I trained at the Foundation of Truth at the monthly psychic fairs giving readings for seven years the first Saturday of the month. On the second Saturday of the month, I worked with Rev. Virginia Southern and Rev. Frank Rambow at their psychic fair for five years. I was on Pathways, a cable television show about metaphysics in the early eighties with Rev. Virginia Southern the host giving the astrological aspects for the up-coming week. By 1985, I was interviewed by “Southline Newspaper” about my work and started getting a surge of new business. The Creative Loafing Newspaper was the first to offer a listing for psychics and astrologers and the small ad brought new clients who I still know today. My appearances on radio began in 1985 locally in Atlanta and by the late eighties and early nineties I was the top psychic for events in Atlanta through Power 99 FM Radio. I worked on the Fright Train for Halloween with Will Smith and Salt and Pepper and the next year with Belinda Carlisle and the Beastie Boys on the train. I began writing in 1986 for the Atlanta Women’s Newspaper about “What’s in the Stars” monthly. Then on to the Georgia Business Forum Newspaper where in June of 1989 where I predicted Atlanta to host the 1996 Olympics and it was officially announced in September. While writing for various publications I worked at hotel events ,restaurants, metaphysical bookstores, women’s organizations giving readings and lectures. I presented lectures and readings for more than seventy percent of all Post Apartment Homes at their club hous es through contracts with the activity directors. Presented first “Tea and Destiny” at the Regency Suites in Midtown on Wednesdays in the summer of 1989 giving high tea readings to lure in local corporations to see recent renovations to the hotel. In 1989-1990, received the opportunity to have my own radio show out of Gainesville, Georgia on WDUN Am called “Psychic Sez” with Candace Peterson twice weekly live on air for one year. From this radio station I launched nationally and into Canada giving readings on radio both Am and FM to more than 300 different stations.
By the early 90’s I had already worked with the GBI on a high profile missing and murder case. I traveled to Sydney Nova Scotia to work the first psychic fair there with Barry MacKinnon from CJCB Radio in September of 1990. In 1992, I began working for the first Psychic hotline in the nation. I was a slave to their phone for six hours straight making them a lot of money. I quit after four months. By 1993, I was asked to write for Southern Flair Magazine as a columnist covering features, travel and horoscopes and continued until 2003. During that time, I traveled for the magazine to Nasa, Africa, Curacao, Tennessee and locally around the state.

I have been featured in various articles over the thirty-nine years from the” Ghosts of Dunwoody” in Points North Magazine where I describe the former residents of the Donaldson home to the “Dekalb Buys house in Ghostly Condition” in the AJC. I have blessed many of the most haunted homes around Atlanta and beyond the city such as Oakton House in Marietta, Georgia owned by the same family for seven generations where Sherman made his residence during the Civil War. As a spiritualist minister, I am called upon to bless many homes and residences where activity has not stopped for the owners and need my help. From missing and murder cases to forecasting for Fortune Five Hundred corporations my work continues to expand through Zoom and travel to new areas. With “Stand-up Clairvoyance” live on zoom the last Thursday of the month at 8:00pm with a “Spirit Pep Rally” to connect with loved ones. To classes, consultations and lectures reaching out across the globe to old clients and new with Zoom sessions making connecting more accessible than ever.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the suburbs of Marietta with my boyfriend where there are many wonderful things to do an hour away and nearby. We like hiking up Kennesaw Mountain because it has incredible views and is a peaceful walk up and down. Then there is the Smith-Gilbert Botanical Gardens which has an incredible collection of bonsai trees and is just down the road within a couple of miles of the mountain. Then we have Marietta on the Square, the Southern Museum and the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art. There is the Gone with the Wind Museum at Brumby Hall, all of which are close to each other. I like going to the Blueridge railway and taking the train ride to Copperhead Tennessee and the Georgia state line for lunch on the Toccoa river. We enjoy going to Amicalola State Falls which is the highest waterfall in the state and has a restaurant at the lodge overlooking the mountains below. The Amicalola lodge is a great place to finish out the day having a meal while watching the sunset. Lake Allatoona is thirty minutes from my house and has beaches and is a very clean lake to go swimming in. It is a great place to have a picnic with family and friends. Lifetime is my favorite place and is nearby where we love to work out and swim. Pappadeaux’s is one of the best places to eat seafood, have great cocktails and desserts and is on Windy Hill Road. Provino’s has good Italian food and is affordable with unlimited garlic rolls and salad. The Battery hosts many restaurants and venues for the Truist Stadium and is like our own Las Vegas. If you crave the nightlife scene in my area this is where everybody goes to dance, walk around and explore.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As far as recognizing an organization that helped my business grow, it would be the Atlanta Women’s Commerce Club. In 1986 I received an invitation to join, and I became the first Astrologer and Psychic Medium to become a member. Only the top professionals of Atlanta were invited to join. Many of the members who I have read for over the past thirty-eight years are still my clients today. Camp Chesterfield in Indiana would be one of the greatest turning points in my life as far as the knowledge and friends that I have gained from attending classes there since 1987. After ten years of classes and services at Camp Chesterfield, I was later ordained as a spiritualist minister in 1997. My teachers were some of the top physical mediums of their time. I attended many seances and classes in mediumship there and I am often a guest teacher and give clairvoyant messages at their on-line services. I would also like to give a shout out to The East Cobb Referral Network which is an organization that I was a member of for ten years meeting weekly on Fridays for lunch and those members I consider to be my extended family. Tyler Johnson the mortgage officer, friend and client helped me get my first home in east cobb and leave my rental in Alpharetta. David Clark was the Handyman for EARN who helped me with installations at my new home and so much more. Those who I met during that time helped my business grow. I learned about many different aspects of marketing my business and changed the mind set of those who were skeptical about what I do to into permanent clients.
