We had the good fortune of connecting with Charity Graham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charity, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Twenty Somethings Media originated from me, wanting to sell an actual product, calendars to be specific. I’d told myself that I would start the brand on Instagram before launching the actual product, but ended up falling in love with Twenty Somethings as a blog and brand itself. While in grad school, I just decided to see how far the blog could go for what it is now rather than focusing on selling a product immediately.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So I am a recent graduate of Florida State University, earning my masters of science in integrated marketing communication. I work with Forward PR as a brand marketing manager, as well as at Florida A&M University, working as a marketing assistant within FAMU Hospitality. In both of those roles, I am most proud of my content-creating skills to produce Instagram reels that reach the client’’s audience and beyond. Getting to this point in my professional life was not easy, but I got here by way of several internships, knowledge gained from mentors and former employers, as well as experience gained in college from my organizations. For example, serving as a publicity chair for my community service based organization SISTUHS Inc. taught me how to use Canva and later leverage that knowledge, and use those skills in several other avenues as well. My time at FAMU helped me prepare my personal brand and gain confidence in myself and my work. When it comes to my brand in my story, I want the world to know that to get different you have to do different m! And if you want something big, dream big and plan even bigger, then get to it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, I’m from Orlando, so I would definitely suggest Brick & Spoon for a good Black-owned brunch, mimosas included! We could head over to Wekiva Springs for a day of nature trails, tubing, and what not. And of course, I’d suggest going downtown! At a club called Ember, they have wine down Wednesdays with immaculate vibes. As far as the weekend a bar crawl/club hop is always a good time.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give my shout out to my friends for keeping me going, and being my built in interest groups for a post and concepts I have before they launch on Twenty Somethings. A special special shout out to my friend Matthew for believing in Twenty Somethings from the start, even back when it was just an idea I rambled about constantly!
