We had the good fortune of connecting with Charita Mariner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charita, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was getting paid while doing something I love and consider myself a subject matter expert in. This will allow me to be consistent and creative in developing the framework for success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
C.C. Charita’s Closet started after I became full time in ministry as the House Evangelist at a local church. Money was an opportunity for me with covering all of the bills and trying to maintain a certain lifestyle that I grew accustom to on a daily basis. For example, shopping for high end handbags and accessories, lavish dinners, lavish gifts, the ability to support family financially, luxury travel when desired and splurge on fragrances all while tithing and giving back to my community in a philanthropic way. With that said, I looked around me and saw rooms and closets full of fashion that others always complimented me on and I wore only once. While on the phone with my mom, I said, “I’m sitting on money in this house with these 6 closets full of Fabulous Finds from all sizes that I’ve been through the years. Let me gather these items and start reselling them at affordable prices!” I did just that and gathered all I could, went live on Facebook selling them on a Friday night, not having it all together, but I just started. I stumbled over my presentation, was vulnerable, had to figure out payment processing, packaging process and all. The community tagged and shared, supported, rocked their Fabulous Finds, tagged my Facebook page and I Shouted them Out on my Business Page! The online viewership grew and grew, I started with 2 young people supporting me with engagement and accuracy of orders and bids. Then, I ventured out to obtain a BOT System with Loyal Shops to better track my business and look even more professional. What sets me apart from other professionals that Go Live on these social platforms is I demonstrate how you can “ROCK your fashions with my fashions with a live demonstration, I call out each person that logs on by name and thank them for joining and my witty personality keeps them engaged. I’m intentional about what I wear as well during my live that can add to the presentation. It is a successful business that I learned takes consistency. I was faithful in the show times and people showed up. Then Life started Lyfing and I was not consistent and just did pop ups which caused me to lose some loyal Fashionistas as they didn’t know when I would be on. That is the biggest lesson for me. Consistency is key to Confidence and Capability of Getting Cash! So, always find ways to generate multiple streams of income and do so in ways or areas that you are passionate about or an expert in with confidence. Fashion is My Passion and I’m Intentional in my Fashion choices everyday that I walk out of my house, even to my mailbox. It makes me Feel Fabulous!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a week long trip, I would take my Bestie to Washington, DC for an experience that I’ve been exposed to by a friend who is from Washington, DC. We would go to The Bible Museum, African American Museum, The United States Holocaust Museum and the White House if I could schedule a tour that week! All of this is a diverse aspect on the history of our country right in my back yard and I would want her to see that! We would dine on those days at some great restaurants like Blackwell Hitch for Sunday brunch, Del Friscos, National Harbor restaurants and we would stay at the Gaylord at National Harbor. All of these locations require upscale attire which Fits Fabulously with my Intentional Fashion Finds! Washington, DC has the most fun, interesting and exciting people to see because of the diversity and the view of Black Excellence and Richness that we do not see all the time in the news, or even on social media.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shout out goes to my Community of Fashionistas and Lovely Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
