We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanteria Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanteria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I had been thinking about getting into the “Body Butter Business” for a while. I went over to my friend’s house (now business partner) and told her that I had been doing some research. She then said that she glad actually thought about doing the same thing. After weighing the pros and cons, I said “Well Shameka, do you want to start a business together?” She said, “Yup let’s do this.” The rest is history.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
(Chanteria’s Response) Professionally, I learned a lot about the logistics of business from working in Finance for 5 1/2 years and working in the insurance industry for 6 years. I’ve always longed to work for myself and use my creativity to provide products for others. With Body Butter Babes LLC, we provide products for women, men, and babies. We try to target all audiences and not just target one specific demographic. We pride ourselves on being able to provide organic products that are good for the skin and smell incredible. We want people to know that this business is not a hobby for us, this is our livelihood, and we have a passion for this. Our hearts and soul go into every product we make. Body Butter Babes LLC is our baby, and we try to step outside the box and provide products and scents that are not typical. We just love what we do.

(Shameka’s response) I second what Chanteria said as far as our business goes. I’ve been in law enforcement for 15 years and counting. 10.5 years as a Deputy Sheriff and 4.5 years as a Correctional Officer and warehouse worker for the Georgia Department of Corrections. They have all taught me that I’m much more stronger and  fearless than I ever thought. Working with the right partner is everything. Chanteria does all the talking, and I’m more behind the scenes, I’m shy to a certain degree, but I’m working on that… lol. Also, we can’t afford to lose a fight. In our case it would be our body butter getting it to the right consistency could be very challenging, but worth it at the end. Lastly, you have to have tough skin. Running a business is not for the weak. Your biggest supporters will not be from people you know but from complete strangers.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
(Chanteria’s Response) Being that we are from a small town, we must go to Atlanta to do things. (We’re not far away, which is a good thing.)
We would go to brunch at The Real Milk & Honey and then go shopping for a little bit at the Cumberland Mall. We would go to Linnethia’s Lounge and Frost Bistro for some night life fun.

Shameka’s Response
In all honesty, I’m really a home body and don’t get out much. So I really don’t know a lot of places. For fun I would go to Andretti indoor Karting and gaming in Marietta GA. If its baseball season, We will try to catch a Braves game at Truist park. Just the view from sitting up in the stadium is amazing. Afterwards we would eat at anyplace that had sushi. Got put on 3 yrs ago….can’t remember the place but it was everything.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
(Chanteria’s Response) To my mom, sister, and grandparents,
(Tawana Brown, Tiara Brown, Johnny & Mary Davis)
Thank you for always encouraging me. For all the sleepless nights spent working, you’ve always been there to give me advice or be a shoulder to cry on in the time worry. For that I am forever grateful. I love you with all that I am.

Shameka’s Response
Like to give thanks to my mom Beverly and son Dayson for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best version of me.
