We had the good fortune of connecting with Channing Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Channing, how do you think about risk?

I think every choice that we make, even the decisions we choose not to make are risks. We take risks everyday when we either keep the same routine or we choose to do something different. So for me, I like to look at everything as taking a risk since we never know how things will actually turn out in the end. However, beyond risk taking, I. choose to have faith. I have faith in my own God given gifts, faith in the good within people, and most importantly faith in God. For me, it is my faith in God and the gifts and talents that He has given me that encourages me to wake up each day and take the risk to believe that each day has purpose.

I can recall when I was in the process of writing and producing my first play titled “Confessions of the Hopeless” the entire process was a risk as well as an act of faith. I had in my heart to write a script, but I had no clue where to start writing. So I researched and called a local theatre and talked as if I had a script that was ready to go. Knowing full well I had nothing but an idea in my head lol.

It was a risk…and faith.

I sat in the empty theatre, closed my eyes and as if it were magic my imagination began filling the room. In my head I began envisioning the set, music, characters, and even the dialogue. For about a week and a half I started writing and “Confessions of the Hopeless” came to life.

It was a risk…and faith.

I had a script, but there was no cast, no set, no venue, no director, no NOTHING! So I began sharing with others my vision. I sought out a few contacts and presented my vision and script. And still, I had nothing, but faith. Then, my dad ended up connecting me with a coworker who was a director and he offered to provide me with a set and an old contact ended up coming aboard and being an actor and a director. Slowly, but surely everything came together and I went from so many rejections to a full house of over 100 people at my first stage play.

It was a risk…but it was faith.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of Restore You Counseling and Consultation, LLC based in Maryland. I have the privilege of holding space for women who are in the process of unpacking their past and restoring their true identities. Along with this I am able to spread awareness, education, and encouragement related to mental health topics through creative writing and presentations.

The main difference between my counseling practice and others is my infusion of creative outlets to promote mental health. While I was in college I juggled between several different majors because I knew that there were so many different things that I desired to do in my career yet there was no specific major that could grasp my vision. However, with time and by establishing my own business I have been able to bring my vision to life by paving my own unique path within the mental health field. During this journey, I’ve learned that I shouldn’t stress about outcomes in my life because things have a way of working themselves out in their own timing. I’ve learned to simply enjoy the process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in the City are the museums such as the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. and the Baltimore Aquarium.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout Apostle Gary Hill, Executive Director, of Exodus Treatment Center in Washington D.C. he has served as a compassionate, supportive, and dedicated mentor to me throughout my career and business endeavors. His leadership and prayers have helped me to get to the place that I am and my business is currently going.
