We had the good fortune of connecting with Ceruleun and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ceruleun, why did you pursue a creative career?
We both have strong musical backgrounds starting from childhood and kept it up all the way through college, where we met on our dance team. Alben started playing classical piano at 5 years old, studying music as a degree, while Khari sang in various choirs and ensembles from elementary school to high school, then pursuing a singing career as a freshman. We started started to collaborate on musical projects on our free time, developing a strong partnership and it just made sense to continue with it post-grad. For us, we were always going to pursue music as careers respectively, but it’s a lot more fun to do it together as Ceruleun.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Music really is the thing that we love the most, and we love sharing a bit of ourselves with those who want to listen. We just try to have fun with the process, pulling from whichever musical influence or instance that inspires us in that moment. So it’s basically throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what sticks, with the result tending to be something new and fresh to our ears. It also makes us really happy to see it resonate outside our studio! No process is seamless though. It’s taken a lot of trial and error, along with a lot of reps, to become confident in our ability to execute the ideas that we have in our heads, whether it be musical or entrepreneurial. All in all though, its something we work on everyday knowing that with time, the only outcome will be us getting better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love spending time in Inman Square, EAV, and Midtown. If you’re trying to dance, you definitely have to check out Rock Steady. Honestly, for food, you can go to any neighborhood and find a stellar restaurant. A personal favorite is Blu Cantina, where they have great food, music, and drinks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You know what? Shoutout to the incomparable Eric Bunting. He was the friend that really introduced us to producing music in Logic X. He had the premier home studio setup on campus, and we would spend HOURS there making music. Without him, we simply wouldn’t have developed the skillset and confidence to do this. Shoutout the GOAT.
