We had the good fortune of connecting with Cedric Perry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cedric, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The idea stemmed from one of my best friends who was seeking to enter the music industry and become an artist, but did not have the resources or the help needed to navigate the field. I was really taken back by his talent, so I offered to learn about the industry and become a manager. It’s been a whirlwind since then, but my purpose has remained the same; help promote talented artists and help them create a career of their choice.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an artist manager, owner of independent music label Renaissance Music Records, community curator for The Digilogue, and an independent playlist curator. It’s been a unique journey; I started managing unofficially around the end of 2013, and tinkered around co-founding Renaissance Music Records and establishing the business in 2017. My growth as a music professional truly began in 2020 with the combination of my artist’s Johnny Quest The Rebel’s EP release Follow, attending A3c Confererence, and connecting with The Digilogue to become the curator of their regional playlist. Assisting in the release of a quality project, building my knowledge base, and extending my network really put my career on the right track. As a result, I’ve been able to start putting pieces together and help others build their career, which has helped build my reputation as a rising music exec. I never really consider myself to be much different from others, because there are tons of talented creatives in the industry. I make my mark by being a person who cares about the people I work with and ensuring they are able to take away something positive from our experience. Sometimes it feels like people forget the service portion of our industry. Gotta treat people with respect and be of your word. As far as what I want the world to know about myself and Renaissance, I just want them to know we are a special group and when you connect with us, you’re going to be entertained but also empowered to be great at your own thing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Jersey is an interesting place, but I’m a person who determines fun by the people. We have fun wherever we’re at. That being said, we gotta eat, have a drink, and do something on the go. I’m probably going to Tommy’s Tavern if we hitting a bar or somewhere in Princeton if they are feeling bougie. We could head further up Rt 1 and hit Bowlero or go down Delta’s for a nice soul food meal. Truth be told, we can do whatever lol.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my wife and son, both who give me the support and freedom to pursue my passion and live in my purpose. My parents, individually and collectively, pushed me to strive for greatness and lean on faith throughout my life. My siblings are amazing and believe in their big bro to set an example for them. One of my siblings is my business partner and thank him for keeping me accountable and inspired to build our company to greater heights. In addition to him, I have a great label of artists, managed artists, and clients that keep me busy and also learning. Lastly, my Digilogue family continually pour into me and for that I’m truly grateful.
