We had the good fortune of connecting with Cchico Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cchico, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first got started, I had no idea there was a career out there as a fashion stylist. I started out assisting & as I became more accustomed to the role, I then decided to pursue it on my own. I always feel like when you make that transition there’s still going to be things you have to learn that assisting just can’t teach you. One of the first things that came to my mind during the thought process of starting my business was branding. It’s important to have a website of some sort to showcase your work and something you can easily pull up. It’s always good to have some form of online presence as well. The most important part of my thought process was how do I get clients. I knew that in order for me to work I had to have clientele in rotation. I had a business relationship with a publicist at that time who would send clients my way and then the references would come in as well. I was always the first point of contact when working with the publicist and the answer was always yes. As I went on & started to learn the business of fashion & entertainment, I felt comfortable enough to manage myself before signing with an agent.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a fashion stylist I started back in 2016. It was never on my list of things I had interest in growing up. I always thought I’d be doing either music or modeling. My start as a fashion stylist simply started with me inquiring about opportunities with a magazine. A year later I’m on set working with high profile talent. Once I started my own pursuit it wasn’t easy at all. I didn’t really have connections in the industry so I had to put myself in those places to create them. Currently, I’ll get inquiries from reps of high profile talent to style the client for anything red carpet, photoshoots, appearances etc. I’ve worked very hard on my portfolio and it shows. It’s the main reason why clients take interest in my talent. I pride myself on knowing & understanding my client because everyone is different. This means, I’m not being hired to do makeovers but to enhance one’s style and give a cohesive complete look. I believe one of the great things about me is that I am very versatile in my work. I can do streetwear, couture, & all in between. I can style men and women and I have an understanding of how important the fit of a garment is. I’ve had the opportunity to work with celebrity clients such as Trina (Rapper), Terri J Vaughn (Actress), & Mya (Singer) just to name a few. I styled Ashley Love Mills (Actress) for the 2018 Trumpet Awards. Since then I have worked on the set of Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, Bounce TV’s Sister Circle, & Atlanta’s 11Alive.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so many places in Atlanta to eat, drink, and hang out. One of my favorite food go to places is the Juicy Seafood. They have the best catfish & Cajun fries in the whole city and there’s multiple locations all around Atlanta. Another great restaurant is Fin & Feathers on Edgewood. If I had to recommend a time to visit Atlanta it would be the summer time. There’s always a lot more day activities going on. In the summertime Atlanta is very well known for concerts! There is literally a concert just about every weekend during the summer. I would take my friend to Music Midtown where it’s nothing but great music and drinks. The shopping in Atlanta is pretty great to that would be on my to do list as well. My friends and I are into the same style and vibes so we always pay a visit to our favorite stores Saks 5th Avenue, Saks Off Fifth, & Neiman Marcus as well. Atlanta has an area called Shops of Buckhead where they have a Christian Louboutin boutique so that’s another place we’d visit. Atlanta is a great place to bar hop as well. There’s a nice strip of bars in Buckhead, Edgewood, & Peters Street. In 2021 I celebrated my birthday at an amazing bar in Midtown where they had the large windows open, we had amazing hookah, & amazing views of the city as well. If I had a friend to visit they would not want to leave.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Coming up in the business as a new stylist I’ve had a lot of great examples of what to do and what not to do. When I was assisting, a lot of what I picked up during that time has stayed with me all the way up until now. It takes a while to develop and understand things and how to persevere and pivot. As long as you have direction you will always be good. I give a lot of credit to my mentorship that showed me the ropes of what it takes to be a successful fashion stylist. One of my mentors told me to just keep going no matter how many times you fall. Because, it’s just information to make you better. I have a great support system of friends who I’ve known for decades now who have been with me since the beginning. They follow everything I do and genuinely want to see me win. My friends have been extremely supportive and are always there to give me words of encouragement and truth.
