We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carrington, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?

I’m from Sin City baby, Las Vegas, NV. Truthfully, Vegas had a lot to do with who I am today. I was exposed to live entertainment at a very young age from phenomenal artists such as: Christian Scott, Chris Botti, David Foster, Destiny’s Child, Ledisi, Prince, Andrea Bocelli, Mint Condition, Celine Dion… The list goes on. Seeing those talented musicians when I was in elementary/middle school really set the tone of what I wanted to be like as a singer/performer. It made me respect those who have longevity in this industry too. I also went to a performing arts middle school and high school where I studied Theatre and Vocal Jazz, so that really impacted my artistry because I did it everyday, you know? I’m very grateful for Vegas and all of the entertainment opportunities it gave me growing up as well. It definitely helped shake the nerves and get comfortable with crowds at a very young age.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Aw! Thank you so much! I appreciate that. All of my songs are about experiences I’ve faced. I think that’s what makes them captivating and relatable. When it comes to my music, I’m proud that I write my lyrics. I didn’t think it was a big deal until more people kept being surprised that I was the only writer on my songs [laughs]. From that, I started getting opportunities to write for other artists. Then, I was blessed to be the Music Coordinator for a short film, and I thought “Okay Carri! Pop yo sh** twin!” Singing is one of the things that I can do but it doesn’t have to be the only thing I do. There are many other hats that can be worn in this music/entertainment industry, you feel me? So I’m definitely open to work if anyone was wondering. Give me a beret, a
baseball cap, and a beanie. I’ll try them all [laughs]. I also want to collaborate with other artists in the future. Although writing by myself is great, I think there’s beauty in collaboration/ teamwork and that’s how you learn, grow, and develop new skills.

Throughout this journey, I have learned that it’s okay to take breaks even if it’s from something you love (or someone you love to be honest). Have faith and keep good people around you that love and support you. Now, it’s 2023, I moved to Atlanta, my second EP “CruzCtrl” (Cruise Control) is dropping soon (if it has by the time this interview is out, you can listen to it haha), and by the grace of God, I’m healthy. Progression not perfection baby.

If you had a friend visiting. What are some of the fun and exciting spots you would take them to? Give us an itinerary.
Personally, I feel like I’ve barely seen Atlanta. There’s so much to do! I’m not sure if I can attest to the “most fun and exciting” but here’s what I’d plan for us [laughs]

Friday night: Puttshack then go to Rooftop L.O.A. for some drinks and nice views.
Saturday: Breakfast at Gocha’s at 9am because after 10 the wait is ridiculously long. The drinks are strong, the food is bomb and every time I take someone who’s visiting the A there, they love it. Ride scooters at Piedmont, walk the beltline, nap at 3pm, go to Botica for drinks and some appetizers and end at Rocksteady in the dining room, then go upstairs because after 10, they turn up. I’ve gone on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and enjoyed myself every time.
Sunday: Go to Change Church or Victory Church Midtown, afterwards, brunch at Casi Cielo. The live Saxophonist is amazing, and the food, oh my goodness child, flavorful. Take a nap, get some delicious water ice from SoIceyATL, (Don the owner is fantastic) and finish off with some tacos from Birria El Gordo because they are the best tacos I’ve had in America. I don’t eat beef or pork and this place has vegan, shrimp and chicken birria. It’s like Christmas every time I walk in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to make a special shoutout to my 7 friends. They know who they are. They’ve kept my head above water especially this past year and I’m so grateful for each and everyone of them. I truly don’t know where I’d be without their love and support.
