We had the good fortune of connecting with Carol Bowman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carol, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Interestingly enough when I started doing this work, I wasn’t looking to start a business, I was looking to make social impact which later developed into a true business model that I was able to scale.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was a teacher for nearly 25 years, but teaching was not my original career aspiration. My professional background is in Psychology and I sought to work in the field of education as a School Psychologist, designing and evaluating educational programs and processes to ensure efficacy and the highest possible learning outcomes for all students. Somehow, life’s plan for me was that I would provide direct instruction to students in the classroom setting. As a result of working in traditional school buildings with the traditional institution look and feel of a white-walled bland environment, the creative nature in me decided to research color theory and use color and art in the design of school settings to improve students’ academic and social emotional learning outcomes. Hence, Learning In Color was formed.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy any activity that allows me to be outside in the sun and simply enjoying nature, so if I had to plan a week-long itinerary for a friend visiting town, it would include early morning jogs, a day trip to the closest beach, a concert in the park, and food and drinks on the rooftop of my favorite local restaurant.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My biggest inspiration for the work that I do comes from the students who I was able to educate, inspire and empower. Seeing their faces, watching them grow and knowing the tremendous amount of trust that they placed upon me to be an influence is an honor that I never took lightly and that I will always be thankful for.
