We had the good fortune of connecting with Carmen McCollum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carmen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
To me, it’s the importance of building a legacy. I wanted to build a future for my daughter. I’ve always told my daughter that you have to have a “hustle” mindset. If life ever gets hard, you will always survive.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work full time as an Application Support Implementation Specialist. I enjoy what I do and look forward to elevating in my career. It was not easy at all. I was very determined to have something to fall back on. I completed my Bachelors In Business in 2021 and Masters in Information Systems in 2022. This is something I wanted for myself. To get where I am today, I overcame multiple challenges. I learned to be there for myself, worked on myself spiritually and mentally, and take time for myself. Wearing a lot of hats can be hard at times. I want the world to know, whatever you desire, it is possible. I thank God every day for my journey. Keep the faith and keep pushing forward.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I enjoy going to the Atlanta Americas Mart with my mother and daughter. I also like to spend time with my family. I enjoy my nieces and nephews. When stepping out, one of my favorite places is Soigne Garden. You can also catch me skating at Cascade skating rink. Besides that, I’m a homebody. I love being in my own space.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my family and friends for the overwhelming support. There are times I felt like quitting college and giving up on my business. They provided encouragement and motivation to keep going. My mother and sister have always had my back and I can count on them to lift me up. Always remember, God is in control, trust him! Life will be better than you’ve ever imagined.
