We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlotta Berry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlotta, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I have several including To who much is given much is required. and also that I am blessed to be a blessing. The reason I like these quotes is because they represent who I am as an educator, mentor, role model, speaker, and researcher. Also they are the reason that I launched my business, NoireSTEMinist Educational Consulting, LLC. The goal of my business is to bring my STEM to the streets to diversify STEM by encouraging more girls, Black and Brown kids to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I achieve this mission through speaking engagements, workshops, webinars, and consultation that involves engineering and robotics education and diversifying STEM.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The thing I like most about my business is that it is a unique business model that addresses the need for more women, Black and Brown people in STEM. I am able to use my skill sets to increase the visibility of Black women engineers, engineering educators, and roboticists. I’ve learned that an important part of my work is to promote my brand and educate the community at large about who I am and what I do. That is also the challenge is increasing the marketing yield and impact of my work. By being a STEM communicator and being active on multiple social media platorms, I am able to achieve my mission and make my desired impact.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think my education at Spelman College was the launching pad for my confidence as a professional Black woman and pat of developing my identity as a STEM educator and advocate for diversifying STEM. I also want to acknowledge my mother who has always been my biggest cheerleader and gave me the wisdom and discipline to achieve my goals no matter how difficult the journey. I am also excited about working with my colleagues to co-found Black in Engineering and Black in Robotics and also the books created as part of the Catalyst Chronicles Crew. These led to the launching pad of my Black STEM Romance novels under my pen name Carlotta Ardell.
