We had the good fortune of connecting with Carl Fetiere and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carl, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I had to come to the realization that your dreams sometimes does not come easy. Whenever you find a dream or passion you just have to latch on to it until you are able to achieve. The idea of fulfilling something that I am passionate about propels me to keep moving forward. My parents came from one of the poorest countries and villages in the world and were still able to come to the United States and make something of themselves. The obstacles and roadblocks I face are nothing compared to that, so I always keep that in mind.

You also have to look at the long term vision, at times we can succumb to the microwave society we live in and immediately expect instant results. You have to have the patience to take a step back and reflect on your vision and goals. Analyze and look at the progress you have made so far and congratulate yourself on the small victories. Having genuine desire for personal growth and can be a driving force in not giving up, as every step of your journey becomes an opportunity to develop. Staying in tune with your intuition and gut feeling when dealing with uncertainty will go a long way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently a Senior Financial Analyst at Ogilvy. I am most proud about the growth and progress I have made within my professional career over the past five years. I feel like a strong sense of passion and unwavering belief in my pursuit of greatness gave me the motivation to keep escalating as high as I can. The journey was not easy, when I first graduated from St. Johns University in 2018 it was very difficult for me to find a stable job. I was working contract to contract and I remember there was one specific job where they fired me 3 days within the position. Left me very discouraged and I even questioned my ability to succeed in the finance industry.

I trusted myself to continue on and I was eventually able to get a full time job and ever since then I have been elevating since.I went back to school to get my MBA in Finance and graduated in the fall of 2022 from Johns Hopkins University. I just knew not to give up no matter how bad the circumstances are or how cloudy things are. I want the world to know that you can literally achieve anything you but your mind to. I know to some, it just seems like an old saying but the mind is indeed powerful. That mental stability and push and lead you along way.

Within my professional career I have been able to launch my personal organization as well called YSS LAFWA.

YSS Lafwa is about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities. I founded with a vision of empowering Haitian people, it driven by a strong belief in the transformative power of education, sustainable development, and community collaboration. If you look at the term LAFWA, it means faith in Creole.

My brand is about faith and hope. Never giving up. In any capacity

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say we should hit all the notable landmarks in the city. Going to the Aquarian, Coca- Cola Factory, Piedmont Park, Martin Luther King house. We can hit Ponce Market for a variety of food options and visit Centennial park as well. For hanging out spots, Your 3rd spot is definitely something that they would enjoy and maybe after that we can unwind with a nice session of top golf.

If you come to Atlanta it would be a crime to not enjoy the various wing and brunch spots the city has to offer. We would go to ATL’S Breakfast club for brunch and stop by JJ’S at some point to get some good wings.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout to my support system. My family, friends, fraternity brothers all have played an important part in my story and I am forever grateful.
