We had the good fortune of connecting with Candra Thomas, LPC, CRC, CCH, CPC and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candra, what role has risk played in your life or career?

I personally feel risk taking is essential to being an entrepreneur. I left Georgia in 1995 to attend college at Alabama State University. Then tragedy hit my family causing me to become comfortable and complacent in Montgomery, Alabama. Although deep in my heart, I personally knew that Atlanta was always home for me. I made a personal vow that I would come back to make a difference like my mother did in our community.

Fast forward to April of 2016, I accepted a position with the State of Georgia taking a pay cut in order for me to move back to Georgia. I can honestly say, financially that was probably one of the roughest years of my life. I had a plan to come to Georgia to get licensed as a therapist and start my private practice. I became laser focused on my goals, risking it all to lay the foundation to build a private practice to serve the community of Southwest Atlanta. In March of 2019 I began my practice.

Through taking chances, I was able to learn, explore and cultivate tools that enabled me to transform my tragedy into triumph, painful moments into meaningful purpose, and messiness into messages that to this day empowers my clients to take well-informed volitions in their daily lives that lead to their holistic growth, healing and mental wellbeing.

Ultimately, I learned that risk-taking is change-making. I named my business, “Dynamic Change,” because I have come to realize that I am not only a therapist; I am a divine agent of dynamic change. One who helps people to see themselves and live out their lives authentically by engaging, empowering and encouraging individuals to take risks to discover who they truly are. Specifically, my mission is to serve people of color in the mental health space and enfranchise them to go beyond the limits of cultural barriers, boundaries and beliefs to achieve the life that they truly desire.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Certified Professional Coach, and Clinical Hypnotherapist my goal is to help each individual maneuver through life and deal with its circumstances as well as helping couples have more effective communication. I specialize in a wide range of issues including depression/anxiety, coping with life transitions and communication in relationships.

Dynamic Change LLC. is an online private  practice that strives to allow clients the ability to be authentic in a room with no judgement. It is important to us to make therapy convenient. Therefore, we offer affordable rates, evening availability and provide video/phone sessions.

Dynamic Change’s Philosophy to therapy is “The client is the driver and the therapist is the GPS. During sessions we will go where the client wants to go, but the therapist chooses the route in which we get to the Dynamic Change”.

What sets us apart is we are an online practice providing services to individuals, couples, and group therapy to adults 21 and older. We utilize an integrative approach with our client incorporating specialized training in hypnotherapy and brainspotting to assist clients in achieving transformational healing.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My children and family for allowing me the room to pursue my career by being my biggest cheerleaders, Alabama State University for providing me a world class education to do this extraordinary work, Aimee Williams for providing me the perfect situation to return back to Atlanta, Shaketa Bruce for being my business mentor, Katrina Pointer for kick starting my business, and most importantly I want to thank my incredible clients for allowing me to be a part of their transformative healing.
