We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
The most difficult decision I’ve had to make was starting this business. When I started I had two kids, a full time job, and a household to maintain. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to add more things to my plate, not lose time with my kids.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets my business apart others is just the fact that we rent out any party supplies you need and we can also cater. So it’s like a two for one. The exciting part is getting feedback. I love hearing that customers enjoyed my food or that their party was awesome because they had everything they needed. Was it easy to get where I’m at today? No. It was very stressful, and difficult. But I have the best partner in the world and wouldn’t have been able to do the things I’ve done today without him. It’s very hard to prep food, set up events, and being a mom of three. Your mind and body is everywhere. Lessons I’ve learned along the way is, ASK FOR HELP. Ruining a business hard overall and you WILL need help. Also learned how to manage my time. At first I was all over the place. Then I started planning and setting up things hours beforehand just in case anything happens.
I want the world to know that Jojo’s Rentals is named after my son, Jovani. And i started it when COVID hit and i just had my daughter. Now I have three kids 7, 2, and 5 months and started rent align party supplies right after my third. My life is my family and I do everything to move us forward. I am a very positive person and enjoy seeing others happy. It lightens my day seeing everyone’s faces when they see their set up or their platters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was in town we would be going everywhere to eat. I’m a foodie. We are going to the tastiest restaurant, and then aquarium. I love the Georgia aquarium, I can never get tired of it. At the moment I would say my favorite restaurant is Bastone, so we would definitely be going there for lunch and dinner. Ponce Market is also very fun and they have amazing food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family deserves all the credit. My husband was the reason I started making platters. And my kids are my motivation, I love that I can show them what hard work and dedication can get you. They help me at events and my son promotes every where we go. My parents also deserve credit, they are always there when I need them. They always push and give me the confidence I need to keep going.
