We had the good fortune of connecting with Camiel Davenport and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camiel, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Being in the corporate world for 20-years, it was always about them. I worked with suppliers, and there were a lot of small and medium-sized businesses trying to make ends meet. They came in requests for prices or added to have tough negotiations to bring in savings and cost reduction. It was my job to make it happen.
After a while, it became too much. I wanted to see other businesses win. I loved my job, and I’m great at what I do, but it was no longer aligned with who I am. It was time for me to go. It was time to take my expertise and use it in another way that was about helping the “underdogs” achieve their best and have a profitable business.
I combined my passion with a sense of purpose to start a business to achieve my best and help others achieve theirs.
What should our readers know about your business?
It has been a journey for me as a business owner. It started with being in the corporate world for 20-years. When you see you results-oriented and getting things done, you’d see my name next to it. When I tell you they called me the “ATM,” you better believe it. I earned a reputation for achieving significant results, helping the company increase its margins, and winning strategic programs in the billions. But as much as I was lauded for my results, so were my leadership skills and rallying the Procurement team, coaching and mentoring, and being a person regardless of my position, they could always seek support.
With my expertise, skillset, knowledge, and passion for helping others, I started Effective Solutions Consulting, LLC. Being cushioned in the corporate world, I’m excited to reach my achievements individually. Has it been easy? Not by a long shot. There were plenty of times I wanted to give up and return to the corporate world. Being results-oriented, when the clients weren’t flowing in, I questioned myself. I developed Imposter Syndrome. My doubts were huge.
I’m not one to give up! There’s always an opportunity, and it’s up to me to find it. I stepped back. I remembered my strengths. I decided to be authentically me and lead my business that way. I wanted to be a motivation and inspiration for myself and my kids.
The people I work with are all that matters. I dedicate myself and my business to helping others have a profitable business. I have a sense of purpose in helping others reach their pinnacle. This is why I work hard and lead with integrity.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my! You’re either going to think I’m incredibly dull or conservative with a dash of the wild! LOL. Not only would we go to the best places, but I would also make myself of service by whipping up a great meal and having a relaxing night of playing card games. Let’s dive in, shall we?
Sunday- this is a relaxing night for sure. I would make a steak dinner with asparagus, sweet peppers, and stuffed mushrooms with a side of salad. And a great bottle or two of red wine.
Monday- Meal at an Italian restaurant and visit the antique stores to see what we find for treasures.
Tuesday- We’ll visit the science museum downtown and then take a walk on the River Mile with a fun dinner in midtown.
Wednesday- Painting with a Twist! We’ll bring our bottle of wine and have a great night painting.
Thursday- This is a bar night. Appetizers and drinks in a loud and fun atmosphere! People-watching is our favorite activity.
Friday- Jazz night! We’re dressing up and going out. We’ll visit a jazz lounge to hear great music, eat great food and meet great people.
Saturday- This is more laid back and relaxing. We’re going to the art museum and having dinner with extended friends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In my opinion, it takes a village. I’m an only child who grew up without family support. That changed when I met the Davenport family. My ex-husband’s family made my achievements possible. They were there to take our kids to school. They cooked, they supported. They showed love and gave me a family. Even though my ex-husband and I are amicably divorced, they continue to play a pivotal part in my life and that of my kids. It took sacrifice for me to work my way up the corporate ladder, and they were always there for me. They helped make it possible.
