We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron Cartee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cameron, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I honestly was never good with someone telling me what to do and when to do it. I couldn’t hold a regular 9-5 job for longer than a few months. But I will never forget this, at one of the many jobs I had, the Human Resources lady randomly brought me into her office and said “ why are you working here, you’re way too smart to be working here. I watch all of these people look up to you and try to follow in your footsteps. You need to just give the music thing your 100%” So the next day I didn’t show up to work and took on mixing and producing music everyday. There became a need for me and my services in the industry so I just never looked back.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being an audio engineer and producer, you have to learn how to budget money because sometimes you will makes 10k in a day sometimes you won’t make anything in a week. Work ethic is something that people will see and hire you just based off how hard they see you work and grinding. So really I’ve just learned that I need to budget my money and out work everyone. Another thing is you have to find your own sound, you can learn from someone but you have to put yourself into the music you put out.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m the worst at going out and having fun haha I work so much and then come home and see my dog and baby girl, that’s what makes me happy. However if my friends come into town we are golfing. You would have to ask my fiancé the fun things to do, if I go out I just follow her lead.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I am who I am because of God. My fiancé has always supported everything I’ve done, when I had no money and struggling with what to do next and my mental health she was the one that kept me going. My brother Gordon also kept me going because no matter what I did even if it was the smallest thing, he would make me feel like a superstar about it. My parents always believed in me, I don’t think they thought I was going to get as far as I have haha but they always helped me and gave me good advice and love. And really just shoutout to all of the artist that trusted me enough with their music.
