We had the good fortune of connecting with Calvin Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Calvin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Artists have always been my family. I think that when I was little, my father and sister’s creative talent inspired me to start drawing. Over the years, items I would see at book fairs, comic books, and anime have all influenced me. Those things inspired me, and that encouraged me to keep developing my own style and refining my artwork.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I didn’t get to take art classes until my final years of high school. I could finally take a wide variety of art classes when I started college. I went to Mechacon, my first anime convention, in 2010. There, I observed like-minded people selling their own artwork, and I wondered whether I might do the same. So in 2012, with my dear friends’ assistance, I submitted an application to sell my own artwork. To be really honest, I’m happy that I made an effort to publish my own work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If it was for a week, I wouldn’t restrict it to only Baton Rouge. At some time, we would have to visit Cafe du Monde for its Beignets. When they came visit, I would share with them my own culinary preferences. To get there, we would have to drive from Slidell, Gonzales, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. Additionally, a few minor convention-style events are held down here.
