We had the good fortune of connecting with Calvin Watson Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Calvin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew I was going to own my own business one day. when I was six years old, I used to walk up and down Old National Hwy Selling stocking caps to all the businesses that were on Old National Hwy by myself. The older I got the more items I would sell. It didnt matter if it was a yo yo or selling cutomized mix CDs I sold it. But selling the Cds made me realize that I was created to create.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My first form of art I took on was music. Then I started to realize that I am more than just an artist on the music. I am an artist at heart. Being an artist is more important than having money or being a gangsta. The art will get you the money. What sets me apart from other producers is that I create art around words.

Another thing that seperates me from other artist is that I can produce, engineer, write songs and is also an artist myself. I used to think it was hard but its really easy. I’ve gotten this far from minding my business and just kept on working on my craft. in my first beginner stage of being a creator being a creator wasn’t the problem. The problem was me not knowing the business and people tricking me. Books made creating way easier for me. Once I learned how to protect my art , I haven’t had a problem ever since. I just want the world to know that Im not the greatest at creating music but all my art is great forever. It’s timeless and will be remembered as the best.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a few friends come in town and wanted to hangout, I have a couple spots to take them to. The first place would be Velvet Taco. I love this restaurant. Its so good and they don’t have a long wait on their food. I would also take them to the 10 restaurant off of Northside Drive. They have some good food there. I don’t do too much clubbing but there is one spot with three spots that i would take anyone because they are connected to each other and they are extra dope. Moon Dogs , Hole In The Wall, and Red Martini are my three favorite places in one. We can also do some hiking and climbing at Stone Mountain Park. There are so many things to do in Atlanta. I like going places where they’re not a lot of people at.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a special dedication to my mother. If it wasn’t for her then I wouldn’t be the entrepreneur that I am now. She molded me at a very young age to control my destiny and that I can do anything I want and I can become the person I want to be when I put my mind to it. Also I want to give special thanks to Alan Maffett for being a great manager and leader. I learn a lot from him. He is a good business man, a father, and more. It’s rare to come across a person like him. I appreciate him for just being in my life treating me like a brother I never had.
