We had the good fortune of connecting with C.Michelle Jones-Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi C.Michelle, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
Other than deciding to work for myself, The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success was getting up every morning and praying first, Giving thanks and gratitude to God, making daily affirmations, thinking & speaking positive and deciding that nothing would keep me from fulfilling my dreams. I’d also create daily & weekly goals and accomplish them. I’d work hard and keep moving forward even in the midst of many obstacles or challenges. I’ve come too far to give up now. Therefore, I have to be consistent, persistent and persevere. I refuse to allow anything to hold me back. If I don’t finish the race, I’d never know whether or not I would have made it to the finish line successfully. Therefore, I KEEP GOING.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always known that I was blessed with many gifts and talents. My father saw something very special in me early on. He would always tell me that I was smart, talented and I was going to do great things in my life. He was right because I’m left handed, I’m a professional Singer, Songwriter, Actress, Author, Playwright, Screenwriter, Founder, President & CEO of my own 501c3 charity organization. Over 25 years ago, I attended my first audition for a touring stage play and “Nailed It”. I then went on national tour, singing and acting, with a play named “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”. That was the spark of me being able to utilize some of my many gifts and talents that launched my entertainment career. I can truly say that it hasn’t been easy. I have faced so many challenges, ups and downs, throughout the years. But I’ve always kept my eyes on the prize. Therefore, I keep moving forward. Through it all, I’ve learned so many life lessons and it’s made me the strong, courageous woman that I am today. I want the whole world to know that I exist. I have awesome, raw, gifts & talents that God has blessed me with and a unique story. I know that I’ll be able to share them all with the world, one day soon.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some of my favorites spots in the city, especially whenever my Best Friend comes to visit me is “Slutty Vegan” restaurant. We also like to go to the ‘Cheesecake Factory’ in Dunwoody and ‘Roc South Cuisine’. After we visit our favorite restaurants, we take a walk through Centennial park, we visit the Georgia Aquarium and the Civil & Human Rights museum. Once we’ve done all of that, we go to Lenox Mall to do some window shopping and people watching. We normally never get to go to all of our favorite spots because there are so many. I hope that my BFF will consider moving here to Atlanta one day so that we’ll have more time together to visit each and every one of our favorite hot spots.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my mother & father for always supporting and encouraging me in all of my entrepreneurial endeavors. Also my husband and my best friends. You guys have been awesome in my life. I’m so thankful and blessed that I took the leap of faith and left my corporate America job and started my own 501c3 charity organization named ‘4 My Destiny Community Arts Center Inc’ located in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s a performing arts center for at-risk youth, young adults and their families. I’m the Founder, President & CEO. I enjoy charity work and helping others in the community. I’m also excited about being a new author. I have published my first children’s book, children’s CD & Ebook titled ‘Little Pinky Penny and Friends’ that’s available for purchase on Amazon & Kindle. In 2020 during the pandemic, I released my first short film that I wrote, produced and directed titled ‘Dead Dreamz’. I’ve also written, produced & directed two theatrical plays titled “Keeping Up With the Jones” & “Church Folk Got Issues Too”. In the midst of many racial injustices, I wrote, recorded, released and dedicated my original song titled “We Gotta Stand Together” in memory of those who we’ve lost. I’m also working on my first gospel album with all original music that I wrote. In December 2020, my charity organization was chosen and featured on the “Today Show on NBC with Hoda & Jenna”. I was a part of the Christmas surprise Holiday Cheer segment. Their sponsor was ‘AMAZON’ who awarded my organization a $25,000 donation, a $5,000 Amazon gift card as well as an Amazon truck filled with gifts. I was so happy, shocked, surprised & overwhelmed that they acknowledged my organization for excellent community service and giving during a pandemic. To date, my organization has provided over 4,000 meals, toiletries, hygiene kits, clothing, coats, blankets, shoes, cleaning supplies, groceries, household items, bottled water, gift cards, job & housing resources and referrals, etc, to homeless and low income families and individuals during the pandemic. Helping others in need is a passion of mine. I plan to continue to do all that I can to be a light in the community.
