We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Jasmine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Ermineskin Cree Nation which is one of the four First Nations of Maskwacis, Alberta. I was raised by my grandparents because my parents were so young when they had me. I loved being around my grandparents, they were the best caregivers & always had my best interest! Growing up I was always told that I can be anything I wanted to be & to work hard in every aspect. As a teen – I did try to follow the wrong crowd but I had a realization that that lifestyle wasn’t for me & was not in tune with my beliefs & the way I was brought up. I chose to chase my goals as a Beauty Professional as I always had a passion for all things Beauty. After all the ups & downs in my life, I know I can achieve anything I want in life – it just takes determination & a dream!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My family has always had artisans that created all kinds of artwork! Such as drawing, painting, sewing, beading, etc. I always knew I was artistic since I was a young girl, I would draw in my sketchbook as well as sew & bead with my mom & grandmother. As I grew into my teens I started to take an interest in Makeup. I would do my own makeup & my friends makeup just to practice. I started getting serious about it & started a YouTube channel & social media. I started to get booked up for events, weddings & graduations. I decided it was time to make a business out of it since I was receiving a lot of positive reviews! I am so proud of myself for keeping at it & making a career out of something I love doing! There was many times when people would tell me that doing Makeup is not a real job & I won’t get far doing it but I have defied all the odds & now Makeup is one of my top selling services! I want the world to know that you can be anything you want to be whether other people believe in you or not! As long a you believe in your self – that’s all you need! I also want to inspire others! Be that person that paves the way so others can see it is possible!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them out for brunch at a little cafe downtown, somewhere cute & where we can take Instagram pics! We could also check out Walterdale bridge which is where you can see the entire city & at night it looks incredible! We would rent scooters & speed around the area for some fun! I also would like to take them to my favourite restaurant Cactus Club & order sushi!! Catching a movie in the VIP theatre would also be on my list as well!! Maybe if there is a concert in town that would be fun to see as I like to go out once in a while or check out a hockey game!

I would like to thank my best friend Jess for always pushing me & encouraging me to be my best in everything I do. She is new in my life but when she first came to me as a client, we instantly clicked! & we’ve been so close ever since!! We have our own support system together so it’s nice that we can help each other in some way!
