We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney “Chiney K” Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney “Chiney K”, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to make money doing something that I love and have the freedom of doing it at my own pace. I was tired of waking up every morning to go to a place (job) that made me miserable. You only get one life and I want to live a life of quality. I want to be 80 years old looking back at my life pleased with how I made a living.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started the Chiney K Brand in 2010. I was a college student with big dreams of leaving my mark in the entertainment industry. While in school at Georgia State University studying Public Relations; I decided that my end game would be me being my own boss. I started Chuune Media where I interviewed some of the top celebrities and musicians on my on platform. From there I branched off to Chiney K Promotions where I exercised my knowledge of Public relations to promote events and artists. I also created my own events under the Chiney K Promotions umbrella, like the highly successful Movie Noire. While from the outside looking in, the Chiney K life seems glamorous; however people don’t know the dirty work that goes behind hit. Like many people I thought the entrepreneur life was glamorous until I actually lived it. Entrepreneur work is 24/7 and your checks are never guaranteed like a 9-5. Some days I’m rich; and some days I’m poor. It’s a constant struggle a life not for the faint of heart. What keeps me going is the passion that I have for my field. I strongly believe if you’re not passionate about what you’re doing, you will fail ; not only in business but in life. Throughout my journey I’ve learned that anything worth it to you has to be worth fighting for. There are times where you will want to give up, but you have to keep pushing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spot in the city is West Midtown. There are so many hidden gems and amazing restaurants there. Sometimes it seems as if there is a new restaurant opening every week in West Midtown. One of my faves is Le Fat, an upscale Vietnamese restaurant. The food there is amazing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to my family who is always there when I need them and my Chiney K village (my team). Without them I would not be able to achieve half of my accomplishments.
