We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Caldwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was working at a prestigious international school in Kenya, and was getting pushback from the social media activity that I was engaging in. Working in the Education field is hard for teachers in general, but especially for teachers who have ideologies and beliefs that do not align with the school environment. I have always been very outspoken and engaged in the online community. I have always been interested in the more radical and social side of teaching history as well. So, it wasn’t a good fit for me at the school and we ended up parting ways. After this event, I realized that I would do better to work for myself and be my own boss so that I did not have to necessarily answer to anyone regarding my life online.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a creative is extremely hard. Content creation is an art and is something that can be very emotionally draining and stressful if you do not stay organized. Being a content creator has really made me realize how much work goes onto the small clips and snippets that we see online daily. Planning, execution and implementation are all on you as the creator until you work hard enough and can afford a large team. Even many large influencers end up doing the work for themselves just to save money- because outsourcing photographers, editors, videographers and graphic designers can become expensive. I have learned to just keep content simple and always be myself. I value my content because I am very transparent and authentic. I am honest with my audience and take their opinions very seriously and I believe that that is the basis of my brand. I allow people to use my platform to tell their own stories and I believe this builds a community feel.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Atlanta so much. It is honestly so many cities in one. My favorite area in Atlanta is Piedmont Park. So cliche, I know, but it just has everything that you need in that one area. I would take my guest to the Vortex to have a burger with a side of plantain and some cocktails. I would then take them to Piedmont Park on a Sunday and have a picnic and watch the skyline. Take some cute Instagram pictures. I might take them to Loca Luna and have some tapas while we’re in the area. Go for a bike ride or the electric scooters around town. Something really simple, but Piedmont Park is just so beautiful.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my followers who have followed me on my journey from being a public school teacher advocate, to selling my house in Atlanta and working with fundraising for schools in Ghana. They were a big part of the crowdfunding process from me asking for money to build a computer room and even them sending supplies to my house for me to send to Ghana. My followers helped me make the decision to move to Kenya to teach at an international school. They helped me get acclimated to Kenya when I was struggling, they were there with me when I parted ways with the job there as well. They have supported my YouTube channel, given me ideas for my history series. My following really supports me in ways that I cannot express. I have met many friends through my social media sites and I cannot be more grateful.
