We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittnay McDonald and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittnay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to start my own business because I wanted to buy back my time and freedom. Having your own business allows you to create your own schedule and have more time to spend on things you love. I once heard when you do something you love; you will never work a day in your life. Doing something you love doesn’t feel like work when you’re passionate about it. When you’re passionate about it, usually there is no limited salary. I am passionate about making others feel great and changing their attitudes. I am in the entertainment business where I model; I’m a hostess and actor. I love this industry it’s fun and it changes people’s lives.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a model in the industry, I realize that modeling is just not looking beautiful in front of the camera it requires studying and practicing, you have to study your body conditions and present it with elegancy. I had to learn not to be comfortable and stay uncomfortable. When you are comfortable it restricts growth. Being comfortable is your broke zone. Being uncomfortable means spotting opportunities and applying for them. Entering the Model industry business I learn it’s always changing and you have to adapt fast. I entered the model industry around 21 and I was scared of what people would say about me. I had flaws and I don’t like hearing the word no. I thought it was over because I wasn’t getting the results I wanted and I started to get older. I was reintroduced to the model industry at 30. This is when I started to take this model industry seriously and push myself. When I started to go hard I started to have more opportunities open up like acting and hosting. I have always been hard-working at a 9-5 job but I never knew what my passion was. Working I like to get acknowledgments and rewards to shine. I realize that at times I don’t even try hard anymore because it comes naturally. Practicing good habits becomes you. In the Model, the industry is where I found my passion where I can practice my good habits and it’s not considered working, it is my lifestyle.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My name is Brittnay and my best friend’s name is Brittiany. It’s pretty cool because we share the same interest. I call myself a travelista because I love to travel and experience new things. I love to plan when I go on vacation. I have been out of the country before but the one place I would like to go to is Jamaica. Brittiany and I love tropical water, love the peace and therapy you get from listening to the ocean. On the first day, I would like to realize and wind down with a massage, because we most likely didn’t get any rest on the plane. The second day we would go on an excursion to enjoy thrill ventures to get an adrenaline rush. I would like to do something like swim with dolphins, jump into a cave with spring water, or sky diving. On the third day, since we are foodies and like to get fancy, I would plan a nice dinner date at a restaurant with great food to eat, also enjoy some Jamaican signature drinkings like Jamaican me happy. On the fourth day, I would like to attend a club or local event with the locals. I would do this to get the full experience as if I was a citizen, They love to dance so maybe I can pick up a few moves to take home. On the fifth day, I would go shopping to buy some things they don’t have back in the USA. I love to shop and have new clothes and shoes. Your family or friends always want souvenirs also. On the sixth day, I would rest with a drink on the beach and prepare to go home. Then on seventh day would be traveling home.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to Shout out some members of the Legacy Model Group. First the Manager Damon l. Gordon. He has encouraged me and motivated me to persevere. Persevere means knowing your desire and keeping pressing on no matter what circumstance you may come across. He encourages me because he sees my passion and my drive. I also owe thanks to a model of Legacy Model Group Imani Boone. I look at her like a sister I can come to her and ask her questions about anything in the industry. She taught me how to conduct myself and how to avoid drama. I started to listen and hear other people’s struggles and realize we are all the same and it’s human. I now love to overcome objectives and prove to myself I can do it and I will. I also own thanks to my Family or the Famup crew. The family members who really touch my soul are my sister Ebony Clark, and my cousin Latoya McCollough. As I grow in the industry and I am able to share my experiences and know I have people counting on me. The love I get from my family is much needed when I feel like giving up. My mom Kaki Clark, and Grandma Sarah Baker always remind me that I have to break generational curses, pray and keep God first. My Grandma sends me daily motivation quotes which really helps.
