We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My decision to explore a creative career came after my freshman year in college. Initially, I started out as a Broadcast Sports major with the ambition to cover college games on ESPN. But, after the first semester, I began to think about my true passion, which is to tell visual stories. I knew that visual arts had the ability to capture an audience through entrancing images and authentic, relatable storytelling and that is what drew me to the best movies and TV shows. So, that next semester I changed my major to Media Productions and haven’t looked back since.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My video production company, LAIKI Productions, which is stands for “Life As I Know It” was created to produce original content that illustrates black people’s stories in a fresh and innovative way. Through my work, I try to touch on social injustices while still highlighting the beauty and complexities of my people. I believe what sets my company apart from others is our focus and tenacity. As a creative, the journey wasn’t easy. I remember being out of work for a while, as a freelancer, waiting for the next gig and contemplating moving back home. But I knew if I had, my creative energy would slow down. So, I pushed through. I began to surround myself with like-minded individuals and together we helped each other to develop stories and produce content. I’m most excited about our recent web series that premiered December 2020. I’m most proud of these two pieces of work because even during the hardship of the pandemic and civil unrest, we managed to create, produce and debut two full web series. Through it all, I’ve learned along the way: do the work and never give up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I would love to give a shout out to Crazy Legs Productions. Thank you for hiring me as a Production Assistant on my first television series several years ago. Being fresh to the game, I learned so much, so quickly and eternally grateful for the opportunity.
I would love to also give a shout out to my family, Confection City. Thank you for opening your home as a space for my projects and for having the best homemade desserts in town. I’m forever indebted to you.
