We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittani Ephraim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittani, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew I was given the gift of creativity, and I knew I had the talent to do hair. I needed more though, so I prayed about this newfound joy that this gift gave me. I wanted to know how this that I was given could be used to bring glory and honor to God. How would this gift bring me closer to my purpose in life? What was my purpose? The answer didn’t come to me right away like I’d hoped, but I went ahead and jumped out there on faith. I was always taught that faith without work was dead. With my faith activated and my work in motion, the answers I needed soon became clear. As a woman and a mother of two daughters it has been very important for me to teach my girls about self-love and confidence. I realized with my gift I could share that knowledge with others. I joined the two together, the gift to create and the need for others to learn self-love and confidence, then my purpose was revealed to me. From that realization my ministry was born. Britt’s Locs and Beyond L.L.C. was birthed in 2018 and my business is now 5 years old.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The art I produce is created on a human canvas, the crown to be exact. The knowledge I’ve obtained on how to maintain the integrity of hair and my ability to educate my clients on how to maintain that integrity makes this whole experience more fulfilling. My goal has been to bring confidence and security back to those who’ve lost it. I’m set apart from other stylist because of my detail-oriented time I put into my craft. I’m most proud of the joy my gift has been able to give others. Along with the connections and relationships I’ve built along the way.

Consistency has been the key to my success thus far. It has been nowhere near easy because consistency has not been easy to maintain. I wouldn’t say that I’ve overcome all challenges I’ve faced. With growth comes different obstacles and new challenges daily. I’m a work in progress, still learning, and I don’t want to become unteachable. I feed on knowledge and I’m always hungry. I pray I never become full.

Through this journey of entrepreneurship, I’ve learned that my dedication to my success must be stronger than my emotions. Emotions are indeed temporary and change constantly. I understand now that I can’t allow temporary situations dictate the stability of my future success.

I want the world to know that I’m not perfect, but I do strive to be a better me daily. I need it to be understood that this brand, my business; it’s not just some small hustle to make money. This is my ministry. This is the task I’ve been charged with to spread love and light to all those who’ve lost it. I’ve been that insecure girl. That lost young lady. The overwhelmed mother. The scared woman. Life has not been sweet; I’ve been carrying around a bag of lemons for a while, but I learned to make lemonade, and it’s delicious. In other words, make the best out of what you have.

Always Remember That Life Is Happening for You, Not To You.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I Love being in nature, so a friend visiting would need to be prepared to be outside. Our trip is going to be more on the chill side. We’re going to skate around Piedmont Park, and have a picnic. Going to the movies is a must, the movie theater popcorn is just indescribably good. Oh my JJ’s Fish and Chicken would definitely be on the restaurant list. I hope this friend likes chicken because we have to stop by American Deli and get a 20 piece hot with lemon pepper sprinkles, wet. We’re going to stop by Centennial Olympic Park too, run through the fountain and have lunch after. Two whole subs from Publix. LoL, I’m getting hungry now. The rest of that time would be spent inside the house. I don’t get out like that unless there’s food involved.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, want to give honor to God, who is the Head of my life. Without Him I wouldn’t know who I am or who’s I am, So I am very thankful to be a child of God, and to have been given the gifts I have that have brought him so much glory. I must recognize my mother, she’s my biggest fan. Always speaking life into me and pushing me past my limits. Such a beautiful woman inside and out, and a great role model. I strive to be more like her daily. My two daughters, my first clients and biggest inspiration. I’m so grateful to have them, my real-life doll babies. They’re always ready to hear all my new ideas and let me try out new styles on their hair. They tell me often how proud they are of me; I love having daughters. I push as hard as I do for them, they make it all worth it. I also want to give a huge thank you to one of my many mentors. Owner of Smith Butter, Ms. Daphne Smith. She helped me to see how big this business could really be. Thank you so much for the steppingstone. Wish I could list each individual by name, but to all of my other supporters, friends, and family, I thank you all so much for believing in me when I didn’t have it to believe in myself.
