Meet Britney Drake | Painter and Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Drake and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britney, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson having a business has taught me is that, we are cable of accomplishing anything. I’ve learn to think of solutions instead of the issues, keep moving forward , and turn failures into opportunities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a reflection of black women with intimate emotions we are not always aloud to express. The depression, the stress, the self doubt, we are always told to “stay strong”, but sometimes it’s okay to just cry it out , and let it go. Releasing the emotional roller coasters of life also represents strength, and I wanted to bring that to light.
I’m most proud of my Black girl magic collection art show and Celebration of black women. It was 100% curated for and by black women. I believe we should be celebrated and highlighted everyday so that was fun to do ! I plan to do that event annually!
As a self taught artist, it was not easy building confidence in the art world, constantly finding my new ways to express n make a statement that will have a footprint. I had to overcome comparison and have constant reminders of my “why”.
I am now in a position of rediscovering what it means to be a painter , artist , mother, wife, business owner, all the above, all while tackling the lemons of life. I am forever on a path of growth and rediscovery! I am falling in love with mind, body , and spirit.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would go walking downtown, hit up all the hottest breakfast spot, Monells and go out at night for a few drinks at the pool club !
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to God for creating me and giving me the daily strength and ability to grow and enjoy life. I want to thank my family for being my personal hype crew. Lastly, I want to thank myself for not giving up on me.
