We had the good fortune of connecting with Britney Douglass and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britney, how do you think about risk?
Risk implies uncertainty and most times it’s attached to fear. I feel that when it comes to risk you have two sets of people: faith based and safe based. People like to attribute it to your upbringing, what your sign is, education, or sometimes it’s just complacency. But in short taking a risk at some point is a must and will always teach you a lesson. For years, I had a dream of starting my business and pouring fun healthy natural healing into the people BUT I would not take the risk in the beginning. I had every excuse for myself then: do more research, save more money, find a building, wait a little longer, find your followers. As you see I had all the reasons why I shouldn’t but couldn’t encourage myself to just do it. Last year, something in me said, “girl shutup and just try”. I decided that day to take the risk and start. Now here I am building my business that started with barely any money, and I’m helping people not only recover from COVID but I’ve helped women get pregnant after miscarriages, and helped people regulate their diabetes, regulate their hormones, and Get Their Health Up in general. Taking the risk that I had put off for so long taught me so much, helped me fine tune my goals and vision, while also allowing me to network and grow. I have met some amazing people, and it has allowed me the opportunity to help push others to take risks and reach their goals as well.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As the owner of GoldenBirdHealing I am always busy because I also still work full time with Clayton County Schools. At GoldenBirdHealing and we make holistic health and beauty products! What sets us apart from others is our willingness to help our community through bettering their health and overall self being. We are most excited about the opportunities to bring awareness to alternative ways to heal the body, improve your health, and overall spirit. Unfortunately, there is not much attention given to alternatives of western medicine, so it can be hard to convince people to start trying something new and unknown, but we pride ourselves on educating and making people feel more comfortable trying out a new health and wellness routine. We have learned it is important to meet people where they are in their health journey. It is not always easy to make drastic changes in your healthy lifestyle, so we encourage people to make small attainable goals in the beginning as we work together to increase the education and healthy lifestyle of our clients. I want the world to know we make it easy to get your health up and make the necessary lifestyle changes to reach your health goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So GoldenBirdHealing is located in Atlanta, Ga! There are so many amazing places in Atlanta to visit, historical places, quaint eateries, and fun places to go! If a friend of ours or a new client of GoldenBirdHealing came to visit I would recommend going to visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights Museum; it is always good to start out with a little culture and history of wherever you are visiting. Then we would head over to the Trap Music Museum, which features Atlanta music legends. Next, I would definitely recommend one of my favorite Atlanta eateries, Rock South Cuisine, on Buford Highway. We love to support other Black Owned Businesses, and that salmon pasta is amazing. Lastly, I would say we could visit the Old Fourth Ward, where we could visit the local rapper and philanthropist Killer Mike’s barber shop, Swag Shop. Ending the day walking around to see lots of awesome street art.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I first started my journey into holistic health due to infertility, my dad, Russell Stephens, was the first person to remind me I could do anything, and just because the doctors were telling me I couldn’t have a baby, it did not mean they were right! He especially told me to focus on turning my own health diagnosis around through holistic alternatives. Eventually he was pushing me to share my knowledge with church members, friends and other family members. I remember when COVID-19 first came to the states, my dad was very adamant about making sure I started educating and providing a way for people to get holistic health products, like seamoss and respiratory steams to help them fight off the disease. As one of my first clients, he knew the importance of changing his health up. He always encouraged me and pushed me to further my knowledge to grow my brand and what my company stands for.
One of my favorite customers has been supporting GoldenBirdHealing from the beginning; they are always using their personal story of better health and results to spread the knowledge of our brand and how we can be a beneficial addition to helping others reach their health goals. It’s really important, and, honestly, a great feeling to have personal stories like theirs in the support system of our company and brand. It also speaks volume to how our products have helped them, as a lot of the people they have referred to us are also still customers to this day. Growing with my customers has really been a big part of my personal growth and business growth, and I’m so thankful!
I dedicate this shoutout to Russell Stephens, my dad & hero. Too loved to be forgotten!
