We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Ford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bridget, what inspires you?
Writing is a creative opportunity to voice visions, dreams, ambitions, pains, or even fears. Having the ability to bring a moment to life or bring awareness to an ongoing issue by the words and phrases I choose to include in my works are amazing. It’s an opportune chance to be free to explore any thought, any dream, or recreate a moment. Needless to say, everything inspires me. That’s the beauty of writing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Poems Tell the Story is inspired by poetry that allows the reader to be a part of a story from the beginning to the end in poetic form. Poetry is a rhythmic way to tell a story. So finding new ways to place the reader in a new moment keeps me busy.  I guess you can blame my love for music. Even my third novel, The Blind Judge: Discrimination of African Americans Continues, has moments that allow the reader to be a part of those moments, allowing them to feel the words on the page as if they were tangible. After all, what is a story that doesn’t come to life? Elegantly placing the reader into moments of time that once moved to the hands on the clock is vital to make the message known.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Mary Mac’s Tea Room is the place to go! Their food is fantastic, the ambiance is welcoming, and the drinks are unique! I rarely find a Southern Restaurant whose food competes with home cooking of Fried Chicken, macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs, and sweet tea. My husband and I felt right at home! My go-to place for brunch or dinner when I’m in the area!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
You can’t be successful on your own. Success comes with an amazing support team. I stopped writing so long ago I wasn’t sure if I could start again. My husband, Nivek Ford, has been my support from the beginning to the end. Thank you so much for your love and encouragement throughout this journey. A good friend, Treyvon Brunson, gave me the push and encouragement I needed to pick up a pencil and paper and make my dream my reality. What started as a few poems written in 7th grade and high school ended with my first book, “Strength Beneath the Scars”. Sometimes the challenging thing to do is the most rewarding. I am so grateful I received the push I needed to walk into my destiny. I also want to thank LaShawndria Hunt and Maranda Dendy for supporting me along the way. Warm thank you to everyone who has purchased “Strength Beneath the Scars” or “Vow of Intimacy”! I am truly grateful for your love and support!
